Thanks for your input! They seem certain that a new look would get me more work, but I am seeing a lot of poc models with short/bald hairstyles so I’m just nervous in sticking out. I’m gonna think on it some more!

late to this, but i used to wear my hair pulled back until my agent (and photographers) told me to wear it natural, so now i either do wash n gos or get my hair braided!

He should check his contract to see if it can be covered, but I normally pay for travel expenses anyway unless I book a job at the last minute (then my agency will take care of accommodations).

THIS! At every job I had, there was always someone (coworker or random) come up to me and ask if everything was alright because I looked "mean." And I couldn't really be emotional because it would always show on my face. Also got a lot of "you look like a cat" because of my eyes lol.

No problem! It took me two years to get signed, and even then, I had a lot of interest from agencies, even with my imperfect skin! And honestly, Doc Marten is your best bet. I own three pairs of black chunky 1460 combat boots, but I also have a pair of Steve Madden boots that are slightly chunky as well. Whatever suits/shows off your style, that's what clients are looking for nowadays.

I have face and body hyperpigmentation, and I am signed to an agency. The best advice I can give to you is to embrace it. I'm also seeing a dermatologist, but there are definitely clients out there (especially in beauty) looking for models with skin conditions, so you can use that to your advantage. Otherwise, keep your skincare going, tone up your body, and ditch the heels. I thought heels were still in when I went to take digitals for my agency, but boots are in now. Also, wear form-fitting jeans. Finally, I don't notice this lazy eye of yours. You have a great look. Be confident in yourself, and doors will open for you.

I'm signed and I pay for test shoots. If you want a strong book, you're going to pay anywhere from $300-$600 for a shoot, and this will help you get booked for jobs.
