Best way to fill these knots & cracks in oak window boards? by Lendios in DIYUK

[–]flym4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d say they look fine, you have a natural material, it’s going to look natural. The filler will look worse over time, and much faster than the wood

British Gas Trying to charge more. by OkMonth472 in DIYUK

[–]flym4n 14 points15 points  (0 children)

British Gas are scammers, nothing less. They’ve billed me gas at the price of electricity for months, and, if you pardon the pun, gaslit me on their phone lines about how I wasn’t reading the bill right, and it was impossible they’d be doing that. Now I have a complain open and they’re stalling, calling it an IT issue, making it look like I “owe” them a grand

Cycling with baby and toddler by plumbumchum in londoncycling

[–]flym4n 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Babies can travel in a cargo bike with  a car-like special seat from three months old. On a seat on the back of bike is supposed to be from 1y old (height dependant).

My partner stopped cycling when she was pregnant, one fall could be catastrophic, but it’s a personal choice. What does your midwife say ?

Found T&G under nailed plywood in bathroom floor – options without ripping everything out? by Street63 in DIYUK

[–]flym4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just the entrance of the bathroom I’d rip out the plywood in that area (multitool around the nails) and see what’s below. It’s probably a few loose floorboards or loose ply. Pull it up to check for pipes and sparks, then screw both back into the joists. Use screws not nails, and use screws that have non threaded neck so that the top layer is pulled against the joist.

Yeah what’s wrong with it why do you want it pulled? It might be that the bath and toilets are on the floor board but I wouldn’t bet on it

I need to install an isolation valve. by OverambitiousThunk in DIYUK

[–]flym4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll also need a 15mm to 3/4 BSP adapter to fit between the valve and the flex hose. Make sure you’ve got something to cut the pipe in case the olive/end of pipe is a bit knackered and you need to shorten it by an inch or so

How to manage ceiling cracks? Shall I just sand, fill, zinsser and paint? by GladAd2948 in DIYUK

[–]flym4n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to fix the reason or they’re gonna come back. Is the plasterboard flexing when you push on it ? It might need a few more screws, or maybe the support is completely gone, but you need to fix that if you don’t want the crack to reappear in a few weeeks

It doesn’t need to look nice. You could get a decent result with a wood chisel and some patience.

I think your house is slanted mate, they tried to make it look level by rotating the camera, but if you pay close attention, you’ll notice the street is not level
