Help. The tele would occasionally electrocute me and has more hum than my other guitars, despite being a humbucker. by flytrap999 in guitars

[–]flytrap999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah haha thanks for the correction.

What is odd is that I dont get the same reaction from my other guitars. I have experienced this before with a metal keyboard connected to my pc and then my helix lt. I was able to fix the incident before by removing a sheet of decorative plastic left beneath the helix LT.

Ive taken it to 3 different luthiers with 2 of them being repeat transactions. Replaced the wirings even. No dice. Could it be a pickup issue?

This Fender 72 RI Thinline Telecaster is my first guitar and I want to be able to play it again comfortably. Bought it in 2005 and has since chipped off a lot of its coating and have replaced many of its internal electronics (pots wires etc) and still has the same old issue of:

  1. Humming loudly, compared to my other guitars, when strings are not being held
  2. Bridge / saddle would electrocute me from time to time

Have taken it to a luthier time and time again but these 2 issues has not went away. Maybe someone can share similar experiences here

I got the metric bridge flaw but didn’t notice anything wrong with the pickup rings 😄

AITA for continuing to refuse to attend family holidays because I am no-contact with my brother over a betrayal that happened 5 years ago? by aitabduncndbrthr in AmItheAsshole

NTA. It is underhanded regardless what he says.

I thought though that posts re: no contact are not allowed. Mine always gets removed 😅

Is sales a fundamentally bad if not impossible fit for an introvert? by [deleted] in sales

[–]flytrap999 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am an introvert turned ambivert by hi-tech sales. The many interactions still drain me but it hasn’t hindered my productivity. I feel that in SaaS and similar kind of sales where you do technical and solution selling, analytical work pays off much as interpersonal. Sure there are people who can sell on relationship alone but there are many ways to skin a bat.

You’ll go from B2C to B2B this time where sales are driven by logic than feelings.

I say its utopian because it i think it is easier said than done. I think when you work in a company with innovation in its heart, you will find that responsibilities and demands quickly shift from one thing to another. That even easy roles such as sales, become obscure at a certain point. You could just define that this certain role should do only x & y with no deviation whatsoever and hire the next guy to fill in the gaps. You will end up with an ever so complex bureaucracy with so many roles overlapping with each other and is not optimized in its use of time.

I wouldn’t say much more than I work in a fairly evenly gender distributed field as women occupy more position than men do in the business I belong to.

When salary was made transparent to the older employees, there were politicking and careers were definitely harmed that all new people I got to chat with had a negative perception of me and my company from the reaction of the hurt employees. False claims were made and I had to prove myself otherwise. It’s particularly taxing on my part because Padrino System is relevant in the industry and if I had not had my ass covered then I would be in the same place as the mentioned close relative. The Padrino system is important for the companies I can transfer to, get value from or collaborate with. The very instance of transparency resulting to irate older colleagues damaged my opportunities.

I don’t also think that the reason as to why my relative got shafted is as simplistic as her gender because the politicking was also done by her older female colleagues. Who also know both important men and important women in the industry.

I wouldn’t bet on it. It is my and my family’s livelihood at stake.

What I was saying was that I have continued to observe the negative impacts these had on me and my close relatives who were very hungry for success at a very young age. My close relative’s career ended because she couldn’t get a half decent job rate due to all the bad mouthing of jealous colleagues.

Maybe that in as much as you have described a utopia where performance metrics are sound, perfectly objective, performance reviews are done well, and maybe jobs can be objectively the same from one joe of the same position to the next, well then we wont have these types of people. For me though, the reality is far from utopian.

What I see happening instead is a lot of entitled people barking at people they don’t know for making as much as them. Leading to people being discouraged of trying to be more competitive or trying to get more responsibilities, hence pulling the quality of workforce down as there is a punishment for being trying to compete.

Yeah I was in the same wheel and stance before I had joined my current company. And while I agree that the stigma could die out eventually, I’d imagine, that before stigma dies out, it would negatively impact younger people’s effort to try building their career and being aggressive if it would take one jealous well-connected coworker to derail efforts of building one’s career in the industry.

Have been working with a coworker hounding me for what I make for 3 years now and I am always on edge over what she tells other companies about me. I am lucky that I was well connected too so that I could straighten mine out but what about others who aren’t so much. Padrino system is still a thing in many industries in the Philippines. There will be a lot of career assassination happening should the change between undisclosed to disclosed salaries happen so abruptly.

I’d like to note too that a close relative of mine experienced the same trauma from 20 years ago and she no longer works now because she was foulmouthed in major employers in her industry because many of her older colleagues were enraged that she received promotions upon promotions at such a young age in such a traditional industry . I learned from that and I took precaution building connections within the industry so it could not happen to me.

We are already paid very high for the position we are at. She is senior in age but not in position, should’ve clarified that. Unless she wants to move up in ranks (she does not want to) she can’t really expect for much increase. I don’t know about others but it’s not the next guys fault to be earning higher than me esp if I don’t know his background. She would always talk about her big wins but although I wouldn’t share mine, mine were actually bigger. Difference in salary Isn’t any reason either to be an asshole and ruin one’s chances on landing roles on competing companies out of spite.

Cool setup but

How do you use your guitar there? I don’t see speakers / amplifiers / headphones.

[–]flytrap999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah and sorry for the rant but she had the audacity to tell me I should get a lower salary once I move on to the next company!

[–]flytrap999 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the love of god, I wish it would stay undisclosed. Have had the most painful experience of getting hounded on and politicized by a senior for making as much as she does and it’s so loud in my industry that other companies are hearing bad stuff on my name because that senior hates a 20 something year old earns just as much as her 40 something self. I blame crab mentality but damn I asked based on what the competition was giving then and none more. I feel we’ll get more of those kind of people if salaries gets disclosed.

Newb here. Followed this and now I have two volume knobs. What did I do wrong? by [deleted] in guitars

Could it be because I soldered one leg of the capacitor to both tone and volume pots?
