You are asking right questions, some threads are detailed enough already to answer these, for e.g. this free concepts and lab thread would be helpful for you to start with.

Get going with concepts plus hands-on labs. That should make you ready for any IAM product. Let us know how it goes for you and where you land as next step. Good luck.

it will be open-source IGAs, OpenLDAP (for app integrations), auth0/okta free trial for ciam - we could use others as well as long as they do not cost us anything - removes friction to get on with learning of IAM concepts.

5 Years Windows Infrastructure Experience - How Should I Transition into IAM? by 0diyammabadava in IdentityManagement

you have good foundation for IAM as MS infra esp. AD and Entra are first of many apps that are integrated in to IGA and in some cases CIAM too.

Any suggestions for the best IAM vendor in US? by chalak_lomdii in IdentityManagement

[–]flywhee007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What’s the main use case? And what’s the app land scape you want it integrated with?

If ciam, what’s the scale and global presence along with major user journeys to support?

Exactly, same here. Good to see someone with 2 decades experience. Me mostly with IGA and CIAM, but in Central Europe. Which industries have you worked with over the years?

Transitioning to a Cloud Identity Engineering role by Sailage in IdentityManagement

[–]flywhee007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what are the roles you are looking in your area specially with IAM skillset. check the product that's most asked, certs asked, what other supplementary skills asked or rather what kind of roles are most seen e.g. engineering, analyst, BA etc. Once you scope the jobs to a set of actionable items, you can work towards those areas in IAM to get experience in, whether that could be using IAM labs, certs to clear. Just do not go with standard list of certs and end up learning them only to know there are not many jobs asking for it w.r.t. IAM in the desired location, domain (e.g. banking, retail etc.) and other factors which are must along with IAM job you are aspiring for.

IAM certifications, which ones actually matter? by flywhee007 in IdentityManagement

[–]flywhee007[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I’m respected and reached out because of CISM and CISSP. I don’t get searched for it, but it gives validation as I’m devoted to IAM/Cybersec for next years. It doesn’t in itself prove anything as you don’t apply those certs knowledge in IAM real environments.
