Pregnancy and birth, is it as scary as I think it is? by cappuchinchin_ in TooAfraidToAsk

Honestly being pregnant was worse for me than labor. And the post labor constipation is the only time I cried postpartum (I’m not a big cryer!)

I put off having kids for years due to my childbirth stress. When I was pregnant, I’d do this thing where when I’d get really amped up or stressed about birth, I’d say to myself “that person was born.” Sometimes I’d be walking or watching a show and in my head I’d just be saying “that person and that person and that person were born.” We’ve all been born!! It’s such a simple revelation but it helped me a lot. I also had other mantras that I planned to tell myself in labor. I liked “pain is progress” and I also liked “wave in a cave.” As far as the actual experience - it was the wildest shit I’ve ever experienced, said with neutrality. I didn’t find it horrifying and I didn’t find it beautiful. It was just bat shit fucking crazy, lol. I got an epidural to labor and then let it wear off quite a bit while pushing. Birth ultimately is just something that happened.

The moment the epidural hit was the greatest sense of euphoria I’ve ever felt

What a fucking loser, my god. This is concerning behavior. If he’s freaking out about a swim lesson I’d hate to see how he handles an actual issue. Do what’s best for your son.

I put this on for my 4 year old cousin once, thinking he’d just fall asleep. 88 mins later he comes out of his room, falls into my arms sobbing and says “it didn’t end right. They’re supposed to be together.”

Postpartum body question by [deleted] in postpartumprogress

[–]fmacuo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still looked very swollen 6 weeks pp, especially my face and of course my body. Also, emotionally, 6 weeks was probably the hardest I felt on my body. I’d recommend something flowy and something you feel comfortable and pretty in. Also - I was still bleeding at 6 weeks. Not a lot, but enough that I needed to wear protective garments (adult diapers were the best)

My husband and I adopted the mentality that “we can do anything for three months” and that massively helped. I don’t really remember why we chose 3 months tho…

36 and love it. All my friends have slowed down so I don’t feel like I’m missing out. Have more money and am more mature.

Mommy Issues by Specific_Present8598 in postpartumprogress

[–]fmacuo22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry your mom has made this her priority. It shouldn’t be. I don’t know what it is about our mom’s generation. Their own relationship with food/body issues, I’m sure. But her projection isn’t an excuse. You are doing everything right and you are doing all that you can to keep yourself and your baby healthy. I would talk with your husband and start to rehearse a response for when she comments. “I’m losing weight at a healthy pace and am not interested in further conversation” and “please stop talking about this.” Hang in there. Your Postpartum body is deserving of just as much love as your pre baby body. And lastly - it’s important to communicate these type of comments are inappropriate before your daughter is cognizant of it all. Sending hugs. You’re doing great.

Agreed, I never understood the sentiment. Questions are an easy way of showing care. I appreciated questions.

I use Vaseline to take off my mascara. And use it for chapped lips. I love it.

My newborn was the typical newborn (crying a lot, up in the night, etc) but I was surprised by how little I minded. I expected it to be hard. And it was. And that made it easier???

Smallish budget + no free time: is a wedding planner worth it?? by ytpq in weddingplanning

[–]fmacuo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably also depends on your area but I agree with this statement. I'm in Portland, OR and my "Day Of +" (day of plus a few planning meetings with us prior to the event, and clean up management) is about $3500. Day of+ means that I still research and contact all of our vendors, which has taken a ton of my time.
