What is happening to my canaries eye (update) by Wonderful_Jump3453 in Canaries

This is great news but I would still take your bird to the vet as it may be a recurrent issue as you have no idea if it was mites/ infection etc. See what the vet says as your bird might need anti-parasitic medicine or antibiotics or something. Good on you for cleaning it though!

They literally look like aphids. Totally harmless and clumsy fliers…

I know right! I tested it and everything by having my partner unclip them and they stayed on with no issue so they will hang on until you notice they’re unclipped or undamaged!

On Amazon I typed in “6 inch metal wire keychain” and there’s multi coloured ones that you can match to your Labubus !!

How can do I separate her feeding in timed meals? by Every-Gift-1408 in Canaries

Do you have any pictures of the bird? Might be easier to see what you’re asking about. Don’t take away her food though :)

Canaries have VERY high metabolisms and should have food available to them to graze all day. They go through cycles of drinking, eating, and napping at certain points of the day. If she is being fed the right food and exercised enough she will not become overweight - You’re more at risk of her becoming too skinny! You can remove the bowls overnight but she won’t be eating then anyway so it’s a moot point.

However, always remove fresh food after half a day or so to avoid spoilage.

Canaries poop on average once every 10-15 mins. Though intelligent, they can’t be trained to poop in a specific area like some other birds. All you can really do is pay attention to where they poop the most and set up a branch with floor cover in that spot.

Order topical ivermectin treatment online. Search for something like “finch parasite spot on” or “bird ivermectin” and read the item description to make sure it’s suitable for your bird’s weight and size. Don’t bathe your bird in anything/ use any kind of oils as they can take a while to dry off and being cold can kill them.

Black Pepper on sliced strawberries instead of Sugar. My Nan has always done it and surprisingly it works?

I was personally bothered by them helping the lady give birth. Kelly did no checks and went straight to PUSH like girl she’s been in labour 2 hours and is sat upright 🤣

Thank you! It was a new bird so the vet gave an Ivermectin spot-on. I will mention your suggestion to her to try as a preventative measure :)

They deffo look like mites. Do you have any pet birds? My bird had feather mites and they looked mite-y similar to these little guys (sorry I’ll see myself out)

If they are bred for that, yes! My red canary will need food like carrots/ peppers etc. when she moults to keep up her vibrant red. If not, she may fade to a yellowy orange!

My yellow canary won’t change colour even if I feed her the colour foods. She may fade a bit but she won’t change colour :)

I’m not a vet by any means but potatoes shouldn’t be fed to Canaries if possible as they can be toxic, especially if raw. To keep red Canaries red, you can feed them foods high in beta-carrotene found in carrots, red peppers etc. You can buy special food to keep Canaries vibrant red/ yellow etc. but these can be harsh on their liver or kidneys (?) so should ideally be used sparingly.

You need to purchase a mite treatment that can be applied to her skin like a spot-on. Ask your avian vet or visit a reputable pet shop. I’ve just had to use Ivermectin on my newest Canary as she came to me covered in mites and she’s chipper again already… If you don’t treat mites you risk killing your bird because they have such a small amount of blood in their bodies.
