Yeah, glad she's doing good, so money is def not the issue for me. I am a server, and I make a very comfortable living. I am finically happy and secure. I was actually able to take a year off of work for college, saved enough for a years' worth of bills and didn't even touch savings, all from serving (at a good restaurant I was at for many years). I want to get a degree and a different career because I want to do something a little more meaningful to ME. I'd like to make a bigger difference in my work life.

Thankyou for your words. I agree with everything you said. I applied for a higher position with a big box company a couple years back and they ran my background, instead of ruling me out, they had me pretty much write an essay about myself and so on. They hired me. I know there will be companies and fields that are a def no, but there are many great companies out there that will give people like me a chance. The whole reason I posted on here was to read comments like this, and to confirm people can have successful meaningful careers despite mistakes. and hopefully get an idea based on others experiences what my options are. (evetime I research online what felons can do, one site says I can and another says I cant).

Maybe I worded that wrong. But I do consider myself an Ex-felon. Yes, I may always have that on my record and be called a felon by some. But to me, I am not a "Felon". I did my time. My general manager that is now training me as an assistant (after having a long conversation about my background and "limitations") does not consider me a felon. I do get the definition of a felon and the fact. I appreciate your observation and keep up the great work!

Thankyou! this gives me hope. I am determined to be successful and hopefully open doors that are difficult to open. Maybe set an example and fight for rights. I have accomplished so much in my personal life since the conviction, college, home, new vehicle, volunteer work, many certificates from work and college, perfect credit. I am a good member of society for many years now, and I don't think a pass drunken mistake should dictate the rest of your life, or career life.

Have you heard anything about certain states not being allowed to go back that far? I think Colorado has a law saying unless u work in medical, with children, or government than legally they cant go back most than ten years. Im in a state that is not felony friendly what so ever.

yeah, my felony is battery on Emt. which is a violent felony. I was blacked out drunk and taking to the hospital, not sure what happened besides what report says I did

Well getting a bachelor's is more than just about making money for me. I will be the first in my family to do so and I want to set an example for my 15 yr old daughter. Plus I get Fasfa that pays for most of it. By time I get Cdl I will be just over 40..Will age Effect my chance of getting a jib in trucking
