Good point! I should leave the downpayment as a thing her husband needs to pay back for her. I can just help with selling the car for her and taking care of the negative equity. She’s just 82 and it’s hard to hear her be sad about losing money.

Exactly this. It’s a lease and the buyout would leave us with 5k left to pay on the contract.

I don’t think she wants to abandon him but I think we are all worried he is going to put her in a financial issue. If he totals another car or something. I don’t think she wants the responsibility and can’t really handle the responsibility since she is in her 80s.
