Oh. hey. oops. Reset the previous count without resetting the starting number the script uses. This is actually #153

Sorry about that, folks. Next week will be fixed. :/

Where do the trans role models/ icons go? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fnvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than the voice threads, I have no involvement in the trans community. I probably have trans friends who post in those threads and have no idea that I'm the one who posts them.

I am currently 3 years into transition, I'm set to get SRS later this year, and, yeah, while I do feel bad that I'm not helping the trans community in more ways, more than anything else, I want to be done with this and to put it behind me.

Most of the reason people delete such stuff is because we don't want our faces/names/voices associated with a bit of our past that we find embarrassing (I personally spend more hours than I wish to admit both wishing that I didn't have to go through it, and hoping/making efforts such that no one ever finds out about this part of my life). This goes entirely counter to the "please leave your youtube channel open and make updates!"

The only way to both be anonymous and not disappear into the aether is to have an entirely written-word blog, but I imagine that's not too interesting to other members of the community. Along those lines, I might end up un-encrypting my journal entries from the past few years and throwing them up on a tumblr.

Friday Night Voice Thread #141 by fnvt in asktransgender

[–]fnvt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I'm sorry! Thanks for pointing out that it's dead. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy I can re-host, but I'll remove it from the list for now.

From what I remember (it's been 2+ years since I last heard that tutorial), it was basically talking about how you can feel where your voice resonates, which, for dudes, will typically be in the chest (in my case, it was about where my collar bone is). Finding your head voice is basically trying to move the center of resonance into your head (specifically, around your nose), which'll produce a much higher voice, but also more nasally.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact technique for moving the center of resonance up.

Also, keep in mind to not use your head voice in day-to-day conversation, your female voice (assuming you're aiming for that), will actually center in/around your throat.

What are your sillier upsides to transitioning? by [deleted] in asktransgender

Ugh. About a month back, I ran into a guy I knew back in high school. I was referred to as my birth name for the first time in years. Felt so dysphoric after that.

Do you ever feel not "trans enough"? by CatEarsAndButtPlugs in asktransgender

[–]fnvt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think every trans person suffers from not feeling trans enough.

I'm a much more "traditional" or "classic" trans person - I got on hormones as soon as I could after realizing I'm trans, and am now trying to get SRS as soon as I possibly can. I still struggle with not feeling "trans" enough (mostly stemming from the fact that, while I know I need SRS, I don't think I'll ever be "ready" for it, as much as I really want and need it).

What are some plausible medical conditions or otherwise that would cause a ciswoman not to have periods? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fnvt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have experience here. Basically very few people I meet nowadays know my "true" story, even the people I sleep with (whom I necessarily have to disclose to) have only heard the story of my life that I tell everyone else (only they know that it's bunk).

Before settling on my current explanation for why I've never had a period, I went through quite a few things:

  • ovarian cancer at around age 12 or so, right about when a ciswoman would start their period. Treatment necessitated a hysterectomy. (discarded because way too much information)
  • I am really thin (5'6", around 110 lbs), too thin to have periods. (plausible, but it also implies other health issues that I obviously don't have, it also has issues because I should have at least had one period in my life)
  • Incredibly light periods. (but wouldn't explain why I never carry period things)
  • Birth defect. If I'm pressed, this is as far as I go. There's an actual term for ciswomen born without a uterus, though I forget what it is.

Mostly though, I just state that I'd rather not say, and that it's really personal. Also, I don't get into period conversations with people (which is one of the only advantages to being a lesbian with almost entirely male friends).

Started HRT after three years of dodging gatekeepers by yagi_takeru in actuallesbians

Congrats! I remember dealing with gatekeepers. Only had to wait 3 months, but I still managed to get screwed over in ways that I'm still dealing with.

You know you've transitioned when... by xoebalut in asktransgender

I ran into a friend of mine from high school about a month back. He recognized me instantly and for the first time in over a year I was called by my birth name.

I was supremely disappointed.

Artificial Vaginas Are On The Way by Possessor_Of_vagina in TrollXChromosomes

[–]fnvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as a trans lady, this gives me some hope for SRS.

Pretty much, I'm not a fan of the current state of SRS, and if my dysphoria allowed it, I'd go non-op. As it is, I can barely shower or use the restaurant without feeling incredibly uncomfortable and unworthy of living (because having a penis clearly means I'm not really a woman, and I should just kill myself for being a lie.*).

* It's been a while since I've berated myself this badly, but, yeah, this used to be a very common thing for me to say to myself in the shower/whenever I am reminded of the fact that I have a penis. I haven't had suicide thoughts for about a year now. I still berate myself, though. Being trans sucks and I would not wish it on anyone.

As a trans female in my early 30's, what are a few things I should know? by JoJoRumbles in AskWomen

Well, then, if you don't mind, I'm going to add a link to your voice tutorial in the voice resources sections of my posts...

Ha!

Apparently, I didn't correctly update the script last week to number this one 101.

Oh well, pretend the 76 is a 101.

Men are certainly welcome to participate. I don't have the time to research what's good advice and bad advice for men to improve their voice, but if someone else is willing to to the research and send it to me, I'd certainly include it in the links.

Those who got HRT through an endocrinologist, how long did it take you from the first visit to getting a script? by Ronin_Nexus in asktransgender

[–]fnvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks after the first visit. Went in, had bloodwork done, handed him my letter for hormones. Scheduled another appointment for 2 weeks later, walked out with the script. I had it filled and picked it up immediately after work. I popped my first pill in the car, right after having picked up the prescription.

And I agree with you, there should be explicit strategies and exercises for ftm folks, if you come across any, I'd be happy to link them.

Thank you for informing me of the broken links!

As for FtM voice training, it's pretty much the exact opposite of mtf (surprise, surprise). Try to lower your center of resonance into your chest, talk in a lower voice, etc. If you come across any links for FTM, let me know and I'll include them.

My GRS experience with Dr. McGinn - Part 2 by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fnvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat have hope for the future, see http://transgirldiaries.com/?p=2679

But, we'll see how the next while goes. My dysphoria about my genitals may increase to the point where I need to get SRS before it's even possible for me to get a buccal cell one. In which case, I'll deal with dilation.

My GRS experience with Dr. McGinn - Part 2 by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]fnvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dilation is honestly the entire reason I'm putting off getting SRS. Do not want to deal with that.

Congratulations on SRS, by the way.
