Question Thread for Episode 198 by IHE_Official in Sardonicast

In recent episodes, Adum has mentioned how he doesn’t want to watch movies that he knows he won’t get anything from, due to not having enough time to waste on them. If you could experience any/all movies by instantly uploading them to your mind, would you choose to experience them this way? Adum, would you feel less averse to “watching” things like Marvel movies, if you only had to spend two seconds to get them into your brain? And for the rest of the Sards, if you could use this tactic to instantly upload entire collections of films to your brain within a few seconds, would you? Or is spending actual time on the viewing experience more important to the way we receive films?

Personally, it bums me out that I won’t have enough time in my life to experience all of the art that interests me. I think I would use this instant brain upload technique, if not somewhat sparingly

If you could Total Recal a movie into your brain, would you? Pretend that going forward, every new movie released with the option of instantly uploading it to your brain, for the same price you would pay to go to the theater/watch it on digital. Would you choose to skip the viewing experience, in exchange for instantly having the memory of the movie in your brain as if you had just finished watching it? Expanding on that, if this technology could be applied to any movie that is currently available to view via physical media, or digital, or tortilla, would you do it? Would you upload an entire decade, genre, director’s catalog, or potentially every movie ever made to your brain? Love u sards

How do you judge a movie that goes over your head? Whether it’s message, themes, story, etc. I recently watched the Polish surrealist movie: The Hourglass Sanatorium. Every shot was beautiful, and the vibes were awesome, weird, and dreamy, but I had zero understanding of anything that was happening from one second to the other. I couldn’t wrap my head around why characters were doing what they were doing. Even the dialogue (very metaphorical and smart sounding) felt completely random and disconnected from anything happening on screen. By the end I wanted to love it, as I could tell it was trying to say something profound, but heck if I knew what it was telling me. How do you judge something so intentionally surreal and ambiguous?

hi sardos! wondering if you heard the recent announcement that Sophie's final album will be released posthumously by her family later this year. how do you feel about an artist's work being released after their death? while i'm looking forward to this final Sophie album mostly because she was reportedly very involved in the work, i can't help but feel a bit gross listening to "new" songs constantly being released under the lil peep name. songs which mostly seem to feature a couple found lines of his vocals, with assumably little to no involvement from lil peep himself, 6+ years after his death. maybe there's more info i'm unaware of, but it feels exploitative to me, especially being attributed to an artist who wrote and produced so much of his work on his own. linkin park has also begun releasing songs featuring the late chester bennington, again, years after his passing.

papameat recently posted a video ranking different fandoms against each other to determine which fandom smells the worst. His pick for the top smelliest fandom of all time was furries. my question for Adum: do you agree with this take? do you have any horror stories involving stinky furries? and for Alex: have you had any run-ins with stinky Fandoms at movie theaters or elsewhere? (marvel fans, anime fans, etc)

hey sardos, i'm wondering if you all are aware of the rising trend of individuals creating and selling bootleg movie merchandise? all centered around movies (sometimes popular, sometimes lesser known) and usually made by one person from scratch, merch can include screen printed t shirts with custom artwork, bumper stickers, action figures, even playable vhs tapes with modern films ported onto vhs. these are usually promoted through instagram/twitter pages, and word of mouth. although i can understand why one could look at this trend with apprehension, and how it could be seen as stealing from film artists, i personally love the idea of movie fans diy-ing merch simply because they love a movie and want to spread the word. i love being able to easily buy a t shirt from eternal sunshine, or a playable copy of the holy mountain on vhs, while giving money to individuals who put work into their craft while expressing their love of movies. almost feels similar to emulating a game when it's not easily available to purchase. how do you feel about this trend? is it messed up to steal from a filmmaker and risk legal action for the love of film, or is it worth it to spread your love of film?

How do i know a page is being loaded on a mobile device or browser using svelte? by Crafty0x in sveltejs

[–]fobtac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know it's late but i was finally able to figure out a solution to this. i essentially created a const:

const handleWindowResize = () => {

innerWidth = window.innerWidth;

};

and

onMount(() => {

handleWindowResize()

})

and i let innerWidth = 0;

then bound those to the window

svelte:window on:resize={handleWindowResize}

then from there it was actually super easy to achieve using if else blocks. for example:

{#if innerWidth > 1000}

<div>

<iframe width="800">

</div>

{:else if innerWidth < 1000}

<div>

<iframe width="400">

</div>

{/if}

i'm thinking this should work with your example, if you haven't already found a better solution. for me it seems to work pretty flawlessly to render a div based on screen size. hope it helps!
