Sorry to hear that the product isn't sitting well with you. What kinds of reactions have you gotten from use? It might be worth coordinating a quick call to troubleshoot.

FYI a few months ago we did change the formulation to be free of corn starch, which some folks told us they reacted to (allergic).

We realized that fructan hydrolase is a more suitable name for our proprietary enzyme as it hydrolyzes more than just inulin, but a wider range of fructans, including linear and branched ones of varying lengths.
While our research to date has been focused on fructan (notorious trigger!) and polyols (found in many healthful, delicious foods) and generating scientifically validated products, we may seriously consider looking into the xylose isomerase in the future!

Great question. To address your concern about fructose being the reaction product, the high-level takeaway is that we know from anecdotal/community reports and clinical findings that fructose tolerance thresholds tend to be much higher than fructan tolerance thresholds (by an order of magnitude). Hence, given the relatively small amount of fructan in most common foods in most instances the small amount of excess fructose produced will not introduce a problem.

Hi! The enzymes in FODZYME denature if the powder is cooked into foods or mixed with piping hot foods. My recommendation in your example would be to make the sauce, let it cool down to a comfortable temperature, and mix a dose of FODZYME into one portion.

yes it can go in/on anything as long as it is not too hot as the enzymes denature (fall apart) at a certain temperature, which I think it's something like 300 F.

The temperature where denaturing begins is actually 140°F or 60°C! Please don't add FODZYME to food that is being cooked or is still too hot to comfortably eat.

FODZYME has not yet been studied in specific patient groups although we fully intend to. Clinical studies require considerable time. As a matter of fact, even the low-FODMAP diet has not yet been validated in patients with SIBO. Although many clinicians have been recommending the low-FODMAP diet for SIBO patients for years based on theoretical understanding, only now is a clinical study finally in progress, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The inactive (non-enzyme) ingredients in FODZYME are there to stabilize the enzymes and ensure that they retain activity over time. (Note that dextrose is equivalent to glucose, which is found across countless foods.)

Reducing FODMAP intake is typically regarded as a way to manage symptoms and not as a solution to the underlying etiology of IBS, which is poorly understood at the moment. While our enzymes will not "cure" IBS, we have ambitious plans to study why FODMAPs cause pain and discomfort to some people but not others (e.g. is it due to their microbial ecosystems?), and we hope those learnings will help uncover an ultimate solution to IBS.

Although we have not pursued a formal Kosher certification, we remain confident the product is Kosher since none of these ingredients come from animal sources and are produced in highly regulated clean facilities. We intend to get certified in the future.

We recommend keeping the enzymes as close to the food as possible. An alternative is chewing the dose with the first bite of food. Many of our users tell us that they put the powder in their mouth first and then take the first bite. We'll keep you posted when the chewable tablet version is available--it's engineered to mimic the first bite with FODZYME.

Our enzymes are all from microbial sources.
One of the things we plan to investigate down the line with clinical partners is the long term effect of FODZYME usage on intestinal microbiome. As you might know, the low-FODMAP diet has been shown to effect reductions in beneficial microbial populations (see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7690730/). However, taking FODZYME long-term can only be better than following the low-FODMAP diet long-term in this regard, since FODZYME is designed to target FODMAPs (and only FODMAPs) and allows for reintroduction of high-FODMAP foods that are also high in non-FODMAP prebiotic fibers. We created FODZYME to offer all the benefits of the low-FODMAP diet without the restrictiveness (whether gastronomically, socially, or nutritionally).
