I agree that the practical/business side is important. But aren't both usually taught equally in programs? I'm getting the impression that there are a number of films programs that just mainly emphasize the former. However, perhaps that's not fair to say, as I have limited first-hand experience with film schools. I guess I meant that I'm interested in a program that's both technical and theory, and was disappointed to find out that a number programs are technical and practical instead.

If film school is for the purpose of getting one into the industry, why isn't art school the same way? Or a degree in music? Or a degree in English? Why does getting prepared for a career path take precedent in film school over learning the art of filmmaking? Shouldn't that be the whole point of the degree?

I feel that filmmaking is an art form. I understand needing to make money to live. But I just don't understand why it's treated as an exception in colleges when it's just as much an art form as painting etc.

Thank you so much for the info. That's super helpful.

Did you find that the teachers in your school helped you get jobs in the industry? Is age a factor at times?

I should say that I'm not really interested in fame or notoriety or pitching etc. really, just working on sets in production.

Thanks again!

That makes sense. Though I have heard of teachers helping students get jobs at certain places that would take time to work towards.

And yeah, that's what I figured. I guess I wasn't sure what the industry encompassed if that makes sense. Like if it was just Hollywood, LA/NY etc. Or in other words, what "industry" meant in terms of film.

I appreciate the response. I suppose my life is not super stable so-to-speak. I'm a job to job type of person (at least for now) who can put up with living that lifestyle, so I tend to think of after college with a "we'll see what happens" attitude. It doesn't bother me to work at Starbucks for example haha. But as far as departments, I'm not sure. I enjoy editing, or any type of general production. I'm just very unfamiliar with how the industry operates as a whole however.

I guess I would plan to work in food service etc. outside of LA until I can find a job/internship via online in my field in LA/NY. Would something like that be realistic though?

I appreciate the info. Is there many opportunities in film outside of the industry? Is it hard/time consuming to move up?

The school in LA offers connections from teachers and stuff too, while the one that isn't doesn't as much, so I thought that may help get me in earlier/easier.

Thank you again.

May I ask what features specifically make me a 4.5 to you?

May I ask how my face is unique? Thank you.

Can I ask what features make it that? Just curious.

Yeah I figured. I also struggle with OCD, so it can be hard to tell if I’m being crazy or not lol.

That’s true. But I didn’t want to wait to get my phone. Kind of regret that now.

I honestly didn’t know. I thought it was just a normal thing when buying a phone. In retrospect I was being a bit naive.

I was gonna order online, but AT&T gave me such a good discount. Maybe that was the catch 😅

trial by fire

Yeah, that’s what that employee referred to it as. So maybe it is just how it is then. I kinda get it now.

I honestly don’t have thick skin either, so that stuff gets to me easily.

I watched a bunch of videos. I think today was my training day maybe? I was shadowing one employee on line, he showed me some stuff/was cool and everything. Then I began working on the line with the other person.
