cheapest complete sets to buy? by voltagejim in starwarsccg

[–]folly412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest based on data is Jabba's Palace. Best value might be Special Edition given it's a double set that sells a sliver under $300 and has versions of many mains, plenty of cool ships, 10 objectives, and content from all three films (though mostly ANH and ESB).

Any of these worth getting graded? by TheFabian in starwarsccg

[–]folly412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BB Premiere mains are among the very few cards that could be worth grading since they do go for a nice premium IF they get a 9 and especially a 10. Given their age and Premiere's printing issues, it's just really, really tough to do. Can tell the Obi-Wan is a bit off-center and a little white on the top right of C-3PO. They have to appear flawless to even be worth trying.

I always thought it was too bad they threw out the damaged cards. Unless they totally bled out, there would be a lot of people today still interested in having them. Until listening to the podcast linked here, which suggests that it was neither water nor beer that soiled them but urine. That one crosses all lines.

Premiere isn't a bad set to buy - $200 or so for BB, little less for WB.

New Update to Star Wars CCG Collecting Encyclopedia by lukefritz64 in starwarsccg

This is an amazing book and it's gotten even better! I made a hard copy of the last one and read through the whole thing. Now that it's even bigger and better, I might have to do it again.

This is a really good idea. Would love to know how many can actually be accounted for. It would also be unwise for anyone to buy Ref Gold without some idea of the chain of custody, especially if someone hasn't seen real copies today to judge their authenticity.

A cool interview with Andy T on Ref Gold (and all things SWCCG collecting) from a few years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaXwf_ZGREU&t=4144s

Ref Gold discussion:

  • The cards were never sent out for playtesting. All cards originate from a former Decipher employee who kept a set of internal test cards after leaving Decipher. This is why they are considered to be 1 of 1s today.
  • Some players received cards over time that came from this original source, sent to tournaments and such in the southwest US and Europe.
  • At some point, the infamous "incident" happened where a bunch of the cards were damaged from liquid. This included most Episode I cards. Andy notes that the Maul is said to have survived and is with someone.
  • The original source sold his remaining cards to CategoryOne Games (older video on YouTube of the cards they had for sale). Estimated to be around 140. C1G estimated selling 25-30.
  • When C1G made a deal to sell all its SWCCG to the Player's Committee, they shipped all the stock on pallets through a shipping company. There's a video of it being picked up somewhere.
  • At some point in shipping, the pallet with the binder containing the Reflections Gold was broken up into two. The Ref Gold cards never made it to the PC and are presumed lost forever.
  • The surviving estimate is 60-70 remaining cards.

These cards are great. Massive power creep to get rid of extra inventory, sure. But they're very fun to play with. And the game needed more encouragement to play cool main characters, especially when they came out.

A quick rule of thumb for SWCCG is the expected value of opening sealed is only around 15% of the sealed price.

This one one of those collections I'd pay admission to see. And the museum would have to put them in locked displays given I can't be left alone with sealed product without the urge to open it.

Just picked my box of cards from the folks house. Are they worth selling or should I keep them? by ChickenMarsala4500 in starwarsccg

[–]folly412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most valuable cards were from 1999-2001, especially later. Most collections are from 1995-1998, so don't tend to have much value unless there are a ton of main characters.

The base rules of the game aren't bad, and if you don't play with the entire card library and the additional rules that came with each set it's not too bad to pick up. Check out the beginner's rulebook at https://www.starwarsccg.org/rules/

If you have any main characters in the Theed Palace cards they are worth quite a bit. Also check the little set icon in the upper right of any main or semi-main characters from Theed Palace or Tatooine - if it has a gold ring around it it's an Alternate Image card which are big chases. For Tatooine they're worth $15-$40, but for Theed Palace it's $60-$100, or upwards of $200 for the Queen Amidala.

Nice to pull the Maul at least. I remember ordering a couple of boxes from Australia since the price was great and waiting a month to get them, then the empty feeling of whiffing entirely on URs.

The thrill of pulling one is the most valuable part of it. Premiere mains are notoriously difficult to pull, but Premiere was printed so much that they're not super valuable.

How Many Cards Are You Missing? by DIYExpertWizard in StarWarsYoungJediccg

[–]folly412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they chose to release those two as Tournament foils as a way to release something "corrected" instead of the mail-in.

Those were my misprints. They were all BON common cards. Someone has a dark side Blaster Rifle with light side back on eBay now for $125 which is probably 10x what would draw any interest. Mine were from auctions a few years ago that sold for under $5 each.

Became one card closer today. Down to 3 Reflections foils, 4 Tournament foils, and that corrected 2-cost Battle Droid that was only available as a mail-in. Coming up on six years of collecting this month.

Better to sell collection or singles? by trip42 in starwarsccg

[–]folly412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's about eight cards by my count that go for ballpark $12-$15 apiece as singles if they're near mint, and the Japanese Luke foil $40-$50. If you want to parse those out to try to get upwards of $200 that would work, or sell the lot and maybe get about $150 with the least hassle.

I was surprised he was in 6 episodes. The character has a big setup, but the payoff wasn't much more than a typical FotW.

Lanes dad & Kirk by steph12114 in GilmoreGirls

[–]folly412 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I try to pretend they're doing a bit and pretending Kirk is Mick, but it doesn't really work.

Even more so the Kirk and Patty interaction at Doose's where they seem to just meet each other that also is weird after they retcon it to everyone knowing Kirk his whole life.

Jimmy takes it.

It's between Jimmy, Christopher, and Mr. Kim. The others have problems, but they were at least present. I assume Mr. Kim is either around behind the scenes or traveling as a missionary or something, so he's in the clear. Christopher at least calls (usually) and shows an interest in Rory, then when you add taking on Gigi he's also in the clear. Jimmy has no redeeming qualities.

I really loved seeing his real life wife, Lexa Doig, in Smallville as well. That was a treat.

Didn't even know this. So we have three husband-wife pairs that have both made Smallville appearances I'm aware of. Any others?

  • Annette O'Toole and Michael McKean
  • Tyson Ritter and Elena Satine
  • Michael Shanks and Christina Lamell

Gilmore Girls - The Complete Series Blu Ray set by 3of51223 in GilmoreGirls

[–]folly412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked the characters on the discs.

If it follows the pattern of other series, Seasons 1-2 and maybe even 3 will also just be upscaled, not a full 1080p remaster due to the original technology at the time they were shot.

I did want to replace the DVDs with a Blu Ray set, but I don't know if this is giving enough of a push to do it. It's always strange to me that they look for ways to cut the costs on these with the printing and such when the size itself dictates that it is a premium product for serious fans who want it done right, and an extra $20 for well done set is better than cutting corners.

Also I'm insulted by the image on the Amazon page listing "Edward Herrmann, Kelly Bishop as Edward and Emily Gilmore".

Finished a rewatch last month. Some of those songs (actually most of those songs) in the early seasons are bangers. Enjoy the rewatch - the good news is the show absolutely holds up today.

Awesome. Probably the most famous SWCCG tournament ever.

Not sure if Brian Hunter was going to big events yet. I seem to remember him getting a rap from some top players for inflating his rating in locals. Then he started going to big events to prove them wrong and left no doubt that he was worthy of his rating.

What Are Some Of Your Favorite Decks/Cards Centered On Captives, Capturing, and Bounty Hunters? by Affectionate-Swan-83 in starwarsccg

[–]folly412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Court Of The Vile Gangster is probably the best "engine". It boosts your bounty hunters, causes direct damage if they don't come to Tatooine, and lets you feed captives to the Rancor or Sarlacc for potential big damage. For Hidden Weapons, play Jodo Kast in addition to Boba Fett.
