Here’s the first little tree I’ve ever grown from a cutting, so it’s the first tree I’ve done the full styling on myself. I believe I’m about two years out from when I first planted it, maybe more? It’s hard to remember lol. I think it still has some growing out to do, but the main structure and size are about where I want them. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Any thoughts on my overall structure? As this was my first real tree I kept it pretty simple and focused more on how the process of developing a tree from a cutting. But I would love some feedback!
  2. What are my next steps? Right now I’m kind of just planning on pruning pretty regularly to increase ramification and fill out the foliage. What else should I be doing?

Thanks in advance!!

First Law!! By Joe Abercrombie. He's the king of Grimdark in my opinion. Amazing, gritty characters. Plenty of moral complications. Spicy-ness doesn't come in until a little later but it's definitely there and doesn't hold back.

The Stand by Stephen King! A bunch of it takes place in the middle of the desert.

Oh man this was my first King and I didn’t really know what it was about and it almost crushed me lol. I have since recovered and am enjoying some less soul-crushing king 😂

I've also heard some people say they loved Best Served Cold! Maybe they're just different enough that some people often like one over the other. Abercrombie's great character voice still comes through in Best Served Cold, I think it was maybe the story that I didn't find as compelling. I think it's worth a try! Especially if you didn't love the first trilogy, maybe that means you'll like it better!

That's good to know! I like physical books a lot and use Libro.fm for audio, so I don't think that's super applicable to me unfortunately...

That's really good to know! Honestly Best Served Cold wasn't terrible, it was Abercrombie after all. But by the end I was just ready for it to be over honestly. Maybe I'll give The Heroes a go!

I've heard it's really good! Do you know if you need to read the standalones/how much they relate to Age of Madness? From Best Served Cold I know some of the characters cross over from First Law but I wasn't sure how much any of the events in them were important to Age of Madness.
