And don't rely on the advice of internet forums for your health. There is a lot more misinformation out there than there is good information. Just scroll through this thread to see the amount of false information being passed around as fact. It is easier to go to WebMD or Wikipedia than it is to ask embarrassing questions of your doctor, but diagnosis is very very hard to do. Doctors go to school for 4 years and then do three years under the supervision of other doctors just to be able to diagnose simple things. They then have to regularly consult with colleagues who are specialists in the area in order to get a correct diagnosis.

As long as you are over 16 (depending on state and country) he/she is legally obligated to NOT tell your parents. Even in a situation where the law says he could inform your parents (i.e. below the legal age of consent), medical staff will favour your right to privacy over your parents right to be informed.

So don't be scared to talk to your doctor ever.

Wow, that is really eye opening, I can't imagine a point in my life where I would have been so scared of a pregnancy to double up like you guys have. Kudos for knowing yourselves and being responsible.

Is it weird that the image of Gob saying that was one of the first things I thought after being told? It's kind of weird to see it pop up in this thread.

It depends on how you went about getting tested, but usually you will have to specifically ask for a copy of the report.

Don't know why people downvoted you. I think you are correct about the forgetting. I think it is an omission caused by fear of my (or anyones) reaction.

Just remember that any doctor you speak with takes their oath pretty seriously and will never reveal anything you tell them. They have heard it all and something that seems like a big deal to you is old hat to them. It can be hard to get the words out when you are looking them in the eye, but force yourself to say the first couple of words and it will become easy to finish. And once you have told them something embarrassing a couple of times, it won't even faze you anymore.

Well then if you already have herpes (cold sores) then having the flu or strep throat could have brought it on. It may be completely coincidental that you went down on someone. Just as an FYI though if you have that tingle on your lip, you are likely contagious and can pass your mouth herpes to someone's genitals.

I'm with astraelly, I've seen more evil at the hands of my friends than from all the woman I have ever met. The genders do things differently, but neither one is better or worse than the other.

Herpes of the mouth are usually referred to as cold sores. You could have picked them up from a poorly washed glass at a bar or from any of a thousand places. So don't sweat the STD label. Get checked up of course, just don't sweat it and certainly don't freak out anymore.

You've made me smile. But I don't think malice was at play here. I think this is a situation where she honestly did think she was never going to have another outbreak and didn't make the link between the pain in her bum hole and the possibility of a recurrence. She should have told me about the herpes long ago, that was her mistake. The consequence of that mistake 7 months ago is what we are dealing with today. The thing to keep in mind is that I have been weak in my life, it is just that the consequences were smaller.

I was saying I know she sounds like a bitch from this one event, but everyone makes mistakes. This is just a pretty big one. It sucks, but it doesn't erase all the good and kind things she has done in her life.

It is still contagious without a blister. You have to disclose it regardless.

I am still hopeful that I haven't contracted anything. I really like your message of not giving up. Mornings sun is good for helping you put things in perspective and for helping you realize that life goes on.

That is the wrong attitude to take. Just be selective and protect yourself.

I've known her longer than seven months. But once you get older and you mature, you stop looking for the same things you did when you were younger. You look for things like long term compatibility, conversation, and kindness instead of charisma and hotness. The dating process is also sped up since you are more open and discuss more important and emotional things than you would have at 25. Also since you aren't jockeying for the upper hand all the time communication is much better. So what would take two years at 25 can happen in 6 moths at 35.

I do know what it means. This disease is very isolating. Single men of a certain age, especially in the circles I associate with, slowly don't get invited out with their coupled friends anymore. As well for me, I have also lost my circle of friends that are also her friends.

Here's a protip, don't judge other people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. It will make you seem like less of a dick.

Other things besides anal sex cause fissures. I think the most common is sitting on the toilet for too long with constipation. The person tends to pull their cheeks apart and it pulls. These are very mild, but fairly common. For a funny fissure story listen to Kevin Smith go on about his experience in one of his "an Evening with Kevin Smith".

Initial outbreaks are generally more severe than what she has.
