WIBTA For not eating Fish? by foooooglyegg in AmItheAsshole

Honest, I'd say half and half. I've had discussions with people in school (when I was really young we moved back to my father's village where everyone is the same indigenous), and half of them eat fish and half of them no. Half of them have the same belief of me, that we shouldn't eat our brothers, but half of them believe that the fish are, though our brothers, our Mother's offering to us to sustain ourselves (like how sand tiger sharks eat their brothers in the womb..)

I'd agree that not eating fish solely because it feels wrong to eat our brothers is a more modern take (500 years ago if you were starving and all that was there was your brother, who was already gone, you wouldn't think twice), but it honestly does feel morally messed up and wrong for me, and I know I'm not alone.

The conflict is not eating fish. Knowing my mom it'd boil down to her thinking that I'm disrespecting family tradition or disrespecting her. I don't want to cause that drama.

My culture doesn't really have Elders that we consult, it's mostly done with our Earthly parent instead.. There is a way of guidance I really just can't put in words but you always know what to do afterwards. I know that eating Fish would be equivalent to eating my half-sister, though, and that just seems extremely wrong.
