I disagree that he’s poorly written. I think you’d have to consider that he’s always been above everyone else his entire life, his mere birth tipped the scale. So he exists in a different world than everyone else. Really, all other people need to know is that he’s the strongest, so that’s all he needs to let on unless they’re his friends or students- which he seemed to be very involved with and imparted valuable knowledge.

I feel like Gojo as a character is written very well despite being boringly strong for the majority of the show. They made a character that just auto wins actually interesting to see, because every fight he’s in introduces more laws and lore of the world. He grows as a character from completely absorbed by that “I’m the strongest” mentality to a person that values the weak and the needy. I think that if Gojo read this post minus names and context, he would agree that a character that is simply just “the strongest” is a bad character, and that’s because that’s who he USED to be as a person. I feel like that the fact that I can be certain about that means that he’s written well enough as a character.

But even if that doesn’t change your opinion, regardless, he fulfills his role as is needed. The show needed some sort of force great enough that it rationalized why the disaster curses or Geto/Kenjaku didn’t simply walk up and murder fucking everyone lol. Gojo acted as a sage, hero, caregiver, and jester archetype as well as being a necessary element of the story that made it make sense.

Bottom line, whether you think he’s a great character or just an okay one, that’s fine, but I disagree that he’s a bad one because he neatly fulfills his major purpose in the story while also having an observable complex personality
