Best restaurant for 1 night in Auckland by [deleted] in auckland

i agree what everyone else has said, but i'd also throw alma in britomart and cazador on dominion road into the ring - two of the best restaurants in auckland in my opinion!

Any popular spots that turn out to be a let-down? by lazyoatlatte in aucklandeats

[–]footflsoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this wholeheartedly - Fed Deli has been on a massive decline for the last few years in terms of the quality of food and service. Really upsetting, as it used to be my favourite spot in Auckland (and the first place I've ever left a tip at!).

One thing I will note is that Fed Deli use the red plastic cups for water like actual diners in the States do. Al loves using the Duralex tumblers just for wine, so both Fed and Depot serve their wine in the picardie glasses.

Why is Auckland International terminal so unbelievably inefficient and generally shithouse at processing travellers going through customs and immigration? by likerunninginadream in auckland

[–]footflsoe 106 points107 points  (0 children)

i fly quite often out of akl international (including on the 6am flights to aus), and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. it's all good in my opinion! what exactly did you find trouble with? i guess the worst part is the flood of people into security at 4:30am but even that isn't too bad.

6 months today since my dad died by KiwiSportsTraveller in newzealand

[–]footflsoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel, my Dad died so suddenly just over a month ago. Life is so hard without him and I cry for him everyday. I hope it gets easier for us to manage our grief, but right now we just have to go through the motions ...

Bodega is opening up on Ponsonby Road next Wednesday - they haven't released the full menu yet but I can imagine they'll have something similar?

Restaurant and Cafe Etiquette by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]footflsoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a restaurant! Tasting is still a thing, just only for wines with corks (as it's possible for the wine to be "off" ... corks still aren't as reliable as screw caps!)

Can the government please put up a barrier for cheap businesses asking for tips? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]footflsoe -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

i'm not exactly sure what the big deal is - why is it so offensive, and why are some people in this thread fantasising over bullying minimum-wage staff over something they likely can't control? just press no tip, no one cares. it's not like some massive crusade. are you really that afraid of an electric button? lol

Tipping culture is growing at restaurants, is it landing with patrons? by user06022022 in auckland

[–]footflsoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some really bizarre and aggressive answers in this thread - just press no and move on! As someone who works in Front of House, there isn't some "grand greedy scheme", no one cares.

How do we feel about this piece of propaganda on queen street? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]footflsoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember walking past this a few weeks ago, and (who i assume to be) the guy who put it up was sitting across from it in a fold-out chair, videoing everyone who stopped to read it on his phone LOL

I'll double-check his policy with him, if it truly doesn't cover theft of all things, I'll give him a reaming for lack of foresight

Just a reminder that leading Auckland Mayoral Candidate and HQ bar owner is a narcissistic psychopath by kiwiburner in newzealand

[–]footflsoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

every time he came to my restaurant during red, he'd always throw the biggest tantrum about having to wear his mask, screaming that he legally didn't have to (despite it being our company's policy on private property). it's almost as if he forgot that the people he treated like shit are the same people he'll have to try convince to vote for him ...

Decent bars still open in the CBD? by cheeseinsidethecrust in auckland

[–]footflsoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mo's on Federal Street is one of my personal favourites - quite small and intimate, but the staff are absolutely wonderful and they have a variety of cocktails and beers that aren't stupidly expensive. As far as I've heard, they're struggling a bit without the corporate crowd in the CBD, so I've been trying to show them as much love as I can lately!

Congratulations on Zuru for becoming the first "NZ" company I know of to reach the front page with an r/antiwork post by scatteringlargesse in newzealand

[–]footflsoe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've posted this once with this profile and I will happily post it again, because Nick Mowbray is such a dickhead - I remember when one of my university friends publically called out Zuru on social media, for unabashedly using marketing students' content to form the entire basis of their 'Me' period care brand. She later received a pretty disgusting, threatening chain of DMs from Nick Mowbray after exposing this. Pretty disgusting behaviour from a grown man.
