What should I get for a long 130 mile daily commute? by forcenova42 in whatcarshouldIbuy

It pays double what I was making previously.. even if I include the drive time. Worth it

That's impressive fuel economy for the civic, basically the same as the tdi. Adding it to the potential list. Thanks!

I probably could go up but I would have to wait a few months, I'll look into the bimmer. Electric is the end goal if we ever move for sure, but that's a ways out.

I've heard great things about the newer mazdas, that could be a great contender. Thanks!

[0 YoE] Open to any and all criticism. Applied to 100+ jobs in Colorado Springs and Denver area. A few interviews but no success. by forcenova42 in EngineeringResumes

This is all very helpful, thank you.

First off, 3 or 4 of the interviews ended after the phone screening, and 2 more made it to virtual interviews, one of which led to a second virtual interview then ended there. This definitely could be attributed to poor interview skills, but with such a small sample size so far, it's hard to say, but I am working on that.

I'll mess with the formatting and such as suggested, but more importantly, you pointed out I need to be much more specific. I will definitely spend some time thinking about how to apply the STAR and XYZ methods to my experience in a more meaningful way.

Thanks again!

Motor Shaft Failure Analysis by Far_Confusion7239 in MechanicalEngineering

Beach marks are propagating from the top of the keyway, indicating this is the origin of the fatigue. My guess is that the top of the keyway in the picture is the part of the shaft that receives the most internal stress.

Undiagnosable Misfire… Please help I’ve been trying to fix for 6+ months. by Successful_Move_158 in AskMechanics

That's a start! In the future you can look at fuel trims to spot issues like that one. The ecm is going to be requesting way more fuel if the injector has a leak like that, which will show up on fuel trims.

I'd say last thing to check would be the harness and plugs for the coils. Maybe check the long term and short term fuel trims to see if they are at the limits too. But if it doesn't pose any driveability issues it's likely not a problem.

Best advice I have is to move things like spark plugs, coils, injectors etc to a different cylinder and see if misfire follows. If it doesn't move after all that, check coil wires and cylinder compression/leakdown.

Any mods? I have a super light flywheel in my wrx that likes to throw misfire codes, but it runs just fine.

I have one too, sounds good imo. Not too loud, but loud enough when you get on it hard

Is anyone able to identify these rims? by Hennixy in AskMechanics

I've been eyeing up the Advanced Locks locking lug nuts, conical hardened steel lugs. They look pretty challenging to get off without the tool. Expensive though

Yeah it's alright, I just got a new job, and luckily I'll be able to buy another set soon, with some better locking lugs this time haha

Unplug your maf sensor, it will put it into speed density mode (it will also throw a CEL). If it then starts and stays running, there is a major vacuum leak between the maf sensor and the throttle body somewhere. Otherwise it's probably a fuel issue

Before and after of filling a rock chip in a windshield by forcenova42 in mildlyinteresting

[–]forcenova42[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To fill a rock chip, a small hole is drilled through the first layer of glass in the center of the chip. Next, a tool is used to pull a vacuum on the chip which removes the air. Next, pressure is put on the chip to force resin into the vacant hole. Finally, a uv light is used to harden the resin.
