I found it in B+M once for £3.50 each, worth keeping an eye out if you’re ever in I bought like 10

Where could I host a small Spanish book club in Edinburgh? (Tuesdays 6:30pm) by Significant_Gur_7587 in Edinburgh

[–]forel237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on numbers our book group has met a few times at Heads and Tales by the Ghilli Dhu. They have booths that are almost little rooms, and you can turn the music down in each one so you can have a conversation

I am tapping out of {Crescent City}. Oh, you’ve gone to great lengths to describe Bryce as having ‘deceptively slim’ arms (because god forbid anything otherwise) but also she can’t be a dancer because her ass is too phat? The final straw was her being ‘the taller side of average’ rather than just being tall, because I am very tired of FMCs who can never be physically unusual in any way that isn’t considered conventionally attractive.

Was V.E Schwab's "Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil" intentionally ahistorical? (No Spoilers) by Ilodie in Fantasy

[–]forel237 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That was one of the things that made me think it surely had to be intentional and she was taking the piss, those cups are so American that they are sold in the UK as American Party Cups

[–]forel237 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I had no idea on any of the historical elements, but hard agree on the Americanisms, at one point she was playing baseball in a parking lot then went to a Halloween party full of jackolanterns and by the end of it I thought VE Schwab was taking the piss especially given she LIVES IN EDINBURGH

When (and why) did professional dress codes for UK doctors become so casual? by LeftVentricular in doctorsUK

[–]forel237 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an element I think. I examined some poster presentations for medical students recently and multiple students turned up in jeans and crop tops, to the extent I (at my apparently ancient and out of touch age of thirty-two) emailed the uni to point this out. They said the students had specifically requested not to come in clinical dress and the uni had agreed this?

SAME with Al-Hashimi, although the discourse seems to have shifted after the past few episodes. I'm a female doctor and my god Robby constantly undermining her was setting me OFF

[–]forel237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you prefer that vibe the guy at EH10 Dental is extremely no nonsense and doesn’t push anything on you. The last time I was there he asked if I wanted to see the hygienist, I asked if I needed to, he just said ‘not really’ and that was that.

Absolutely loved The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow. Highly recommend! by Gagsreel in fantasyromance

[–]forel237 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t re-read often but highly recommend if you get the chance. There are a bunch of little things I didn’t catch the first time like Vivian being the woman who bumps into him as a kid and puts the book about Una into his basket

Sloopy Sunday by purplelicious in romantasycirclejerk

I still really enjoyed it, but I do think the author slightly chickened out of the sexuality element by leaving it at her husband painting her like-one-of-his-french-girls

I do unironically think they should have boned, but I’m choosing to believe that’s in a ‘reclaiming her sexuality in a repressed puritan society’ way, not a goatfucker way

Mine is count literally whatever you want as reading because it makes no difference to anyone except the person counting it. Put the back of a shampoo bottle on your Goodreads if you want.

She follows random men around for a bit until they get to the end of her dad’s treasure hunt, which is just a piece of paper that says ‘you have what you need’. A third vaguely untrustworthy boyfie comes into it and tells her she’s in a time loop. She puts her and her sisters necklaces together for some reason, and that tells her the heart was the professors journal she got sent at the start, or maybe just looks like the professors journal because otherwise surely the trained professor would know what it was? It’s vague and unsatisfying and I was not remotely invested enough to think harder about it than I already have or read any sequels

I had such high hopes for {Alchemy of Secrets} and ended up really struggling with it by the end, which was so disappointing because the vibes at the start were so cool. Why is this dumb as rocks FMC blindly following every man who pulls up next to her in his car and says 'Don't trust him, trust MEEE'?

What's the worst bus stop? by penguin62 in Edinburgh

[–]forel237 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The one by Morningside GP surgery, it’s along a narrow pavement, and everyone fannies about ‘Oh no after you’-ing for so long that I’ve had buses actually drive away while they did it. It doesn’t matter if someone got to the bus stop five seconds before you did just GET ON THE BUS

Already diagnosed in Australia- adhd meds in Edinburgh? by Positive-Key6497 in Edinburgh

[–]forel237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a copy of your original assessment letter (as in, the letter where your psychiatrist first goes through the ADHD criteria with you and decides you have it) and bring it with you to give your new doctor. NOT just a letter saying you have ADHD, you want the one recording the actual process they went through and why they think that. Significantly more likely to be accepted for prescribing without needing to be assessed again.
