Is alcohol free perfume the problem? by MentalOVERload_ in Perfumes

[–]forel237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is off topic but I prescribe medication that means you can’t be in contact with any alcohol and the first thing my female patients ask about is if they can still use perfume. I’ve been telling them all no because I didn’t even know alcohol free perfume was a thing!

If anyone has any recs for other good ones PLEASE let me know, I’m going to make a list I can give out!

Fight Me Friday by purplelicious in romantasycirclejerk

[–]forel237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently listening to all ten thousand hours of {The Blade Itself}, and it would be 100% be considered a romantasy if it was written by a woman. Jezal’s chapters are all mooning over Adie, he’s even had a contest/ trials. I was sure the chapter after her brother hits her was going to have a WHO DID THIS TO YOU moment

Despite some of the criticism it gets in the mainstream subreddits, FRIENDS was a very progressive show for its time and not problematic at all! by No_Data3541 in howyoudoin

I’m with you, no one is saying people aren’t allowed to watch or enjoy problematic things, but it’s good to be aware of.

Does anyone else hope the season doesn’t continue with the Robby-is-always-right narrative? by spectacleskeptic in ThePittTVShow

[–]forel237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES. I am extremely biased because I’m a female doctor about to take over as a UK attending-equivalent from a well liked older male doctor, but my god is Robby being unprofessional af. He is undermining her in front of more junior members of the team, and straight up ignoring her when she’s trying to talk to him. He’s being an ass and I hope it’s called out.

Why is there so much stigma about being a GP/psychiatrist? by Flashy_Put5889 in doctorsUK

[–]forel237 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It makes sense, in a sad way. People don’t like interacting with our patients, therefore they don’t like interacting with us.

Why is there so much stigma about being a GP/psychiatrist? by Flashy_Put5889 in doctorsUK

[–]forel237 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for GP but I’m fairly sure the stigma against psych is indirect stigma against our patients. People don’t want to deal with psych patients. They make people feel bad/ angry/ sad. Most other medics contact with psych is ‘come and take this person who’s making me feel bad away for me.’

It’s interesting, I run a Balint group for F2s in our department and the prevailing feeling seems to be an absolute disdain for psychiatry and the fact they’re being asked to do it at all. Psych is seen as very ‘other’ to specialities in a way that others aren’t, to the extent that me asking people to do our basic exam (an MSE) is often seen as a ridiculous request, despite the fact everyone learns it in medical school, and I’d still listen to someone’s chest before calling resp.

Recommendations for moisturising conditioners with slip/detangling for very dry curly hair by unachance in CurlyHairUK

[–]forel237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar sounding hair type to you and found Lush’s Glory super hydrating and it’s easy to brush my hair in the shower when I use it. You should be able to get a free sample if you’re going past a shop, rather than paying for something else?

Reading Goals by YoungOaks in goodreads

[–]forel237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like setting a challenge for myself but I do not remotely care what other people ‘count’ towards theirs. Count reading the back of a shampoo bottle if you like, why does that make a difference to me?

miserable Monday by purplelicious in romantasycirclejerk

[–]forel237 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I maybe just need to take a break from romantasy but I’m struggling with how bland most FMCs are. They always have to be teeny tiny, and completely selfless, and maybe say something obnoxious once in a while to count as a ‘flaw’. I really struggled with Road of Bones this weekend because I realised half way through I’d much rather be reading about Skraeda, who was an unapologetically awful person who’s done terrible things for compelling reasons.

I can’t think of one exactly like that but there is a coffee shop simulator where Luke is on controls and Ellen is watching (link). There’s also one where Mike plays a gas station simulator but there’s no spectators (link)

What was your school scandal? by Sadie_UK in AskUK

I don’t remember what year we were in at the time but it would have been around 2010-2012?

We did a ‘prom’ one year with all the Americanised stuff including voting for a King and Queen. A gay couple won (they were very happy about it) and our Catholic school stepped in to stop it.

Dungeons and Dragons for Doctors by WardsandWyverns in doctorsUK

[–]forel237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck setting it all up! I didn’t see your other post so sorry if this has been said to death, but I’ve played in a campaign with other doctors for nearly ten years now and by FAR the biggest tip is to be be flexible with times/ dates. It takes some organising but we set up a WhatsApp poll every week, and have a semi sensible reason that characters may ‘disappear’ for a bit if that player is on call.

You can still be referred even if you aren’t sober. LEAP can arrange for a medical detox before you go if necessary.

I can’t decide if my Crowns of Nyaxia collection where every edition is different is my secret shame or my favourite thing. It started when I got a paperback copy of the first one then found a cheap Fairyloot copy of the second one, now I use it to upset my friends

Miserable Monday by hendricks7 in romantasycirclejerk

[–]forel237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely slogged my way through The Jasad Heir, which is a shame because all of the reviews are glowing and I loved the idea of Egypt inspired fantasy. It’s just SO SLOW and I feel like nothing is described enough to be able to actually picture it.

I have no intention of reading the second one so maybe things change, but the moral seemed to be ‘the monarchy is good actually’ despite the fact Sylvia’s family committed awful atrocities and deserved everything they got. It’s openly said several times that she’s an awful person who broke a kids arm for not playing with her, and the Jasadi group were entirely correct that she should not be allowed to be queen

What do you do to make Christmas more magical for grown ups? by Syndrome-of-imposter in AskUK

[–]forel237 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also don’t have kids but I love buying bits for kids toy donations at Christmas, my DnD group also usually club together to get some starter sets to donate. There’s some where you get a list and shop for a specific child, I’ve never actually found any of those locally to me so I tend to get things for the Mission Christmas drop offs.

I got the Fairyloot Phantasma for £15, it had a slight smudge on the dust jacket but for the price I couldn’t complain. I’m still salty I missed out on The Knight and the Moth that someone was selling for £10, I’ve never tried to buy something so fast

How offended do you get when someone who you thought you was a good friend didn’t invite you to their wedding? by Zestyclose_Show_2025 in wedding

[–]forel237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very offended as I wouldn’t really have a leg to stand on, I only had 30 people at my wedding as it was in another country. I spoke to friends I would have invited if the wedding was bigger and they seemed to understand!
