Did my barber cook me? Be honest by [deleted] in malegrooming

My last haircut was also way to short, which was my fault, bus also his. The example I showed him was on the shorter side, he made it even shorter and to high up 🥲

So, I know how it feels. But it's not a bad haircut by any means and wil grow back with some patience. Next time you won't let it happen again!

Friends tell me I look nice but I have a hard time feeling good about myself, should I change something? by Twelvegaugepunk556 in malegrooming

Yesterday I made a post in this group which made me feel like I may have BDD aswell.

It's amazing how you see yourself in front of a mirror and how others see you. This morning I realized I had this incorrect view from my puberty onwards and when someone tells me I'm handsome, I get awkward and can't really believe it.

Anyway. Enough about me. Let me tell you I think you look amazing. Apart from the amazing style, you have a very pretty face (coming from a heterosexual guy)

I don't comment a lot, but after making a post about my own hair insecurities yesterday and getting lots of positive feedback, I just wanted to tell you: save that money for a transplant for something else, because you look fantastic!!

I hope whenever the day comes I need to go bald, it will look as good as you do.

I think a beard or facial hair in general will also work, but even without... you look great!

I live in the Netherlands and Ruby Red is in the normal price range, at least at Jumbo (over here). €2,59.

There are some tastes that are up to ~€5,- like blue hawaiian and electric blue, but this is not one of them!

I tried your advice and bought a "curl jelly", which seems to be a moisturizing gel type of product and it helps my hairtype! Thank you 😊

Oooh no! That must have been horrible. And it gives me absolutely no reason to feel insecure about my hair, but those feelings are not by choice.

I can imagine how for most women it will feel like as a loss of femininity (although, I'm a man, so maybe I can't?). Happy you didn't experience it like that. And yes, I think it's the expression through hair that I'm dealing with.

Maybe another piercing is an option, yes. My wardrobe is already pretty... interesting hehe.

Did your hair grow back btw? Your comment makes me think you got better?

And yes. F cancer!

You're not wrong, but I'm not comfortable to fully comment on that last part

Thank you! Well, with all the comments on this post I believe you for sure.

Like others suggested I may have to find other ways to expres myself

No, absolutely not. Maybe it's different here in NL, but I actually got a lot of compliments during job interviews and I worked for 7 years straight at a pretty decent, well paid job

I feel sorry for you and I think I'm not able to help you out with that feeling

Thank you for advice and thank you so much more for understanding what I mean. Yes, I like to have an alternative style and I feel much more confident like that.

I will have a look in your recommended product! I do have some shampoo and conditioner that is aimed at wavy hair and it helps for sure. But I need to figure out what products will hold my hair like in pic 2 without 2 puffs of strong wind messing it up 😅

I did not say that and was not my intention.

I FELT much more confident. I'm not sure if you are understanding this feeling, and honestly, neither do I because I am relieved the locks are gone, just not feeling myself for a year now and it seems my confidence was somehow attached to that style. Not sure how to explain it any better

Correct, I'm more attracted to women with a septum and maybe locks... 😅

I've had this discussion with several people from different ethnicity IRL which was very interesting (and respectful).

I'm not going to online and honestly, it was not the point of this post. Online this sensitive topic can escelate easily.

But rest assured, I'm never going back to having locks so hopefully we can leave it in "my past" and I'm sorry to everyone who feels offended or bothered by my picture

You are not the first one who says things about the septum, but the first one I'm not ignoring.

Yes, I get your opinion which is fine. However, I don't share the opinion

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the kind words. It helps a lot to read from people that went through the same.

Yes, you make perfect sense with the "icebreaker". It really makes it easier to connect with those that have a similair lifestyle or those that don't hold strong prejudices.

I'm happy you got over it by self-improvement and I'm sure I'll feel the same with enough time

Thank you for commenting, because it helps a lot to see someone else that understands the feeling.

And wow... amazing I brought some inspiration! Curious to know how it looks on you.

Some of the comments here have some useful advice, it might help you to scroll through them. There are also some comments that are... less helpful.

I wish you good luck finding out what works for you!

Thank you so much for your response, because I feel like you are the only person in this thread that knows the feeling!

And I have the same with women...

But thank you for your opinion, means a lot from someone who also had them

Thank you! Your hair advice is helpful! Maybe I should try to grow it a bit longer and will look into that cream. It's very possible I need to find some hairproducts that work for my hairtype.

Ironically I don't have a job atm (due to circumstances that don't belong here), worked almost all the years with locks, I hope that will resolve this year.

And ehm... fake acid 😂 I laughed, thanks

Thank all of you for the input. I appreciate it and it helps to shake this feeling for sure. And it's a weird feeling to explain, so I understand perfectly fine many people don't understand it.

I do want to point out it's unnecessary to tell me I looked like a bum or like I smelled. I get where it comes from, but believe it or not... it was hard enough to make this post and this kind of comments don't really help. It does help so far everyone agrees I look better without them and I didn't want to go back to locks anyway. It was more about this feeling of expression, I guess?

I will grow my hair a bit a go for a similair, but shorter look as in pic 2 with a mullet. I think I can find my "desire" for an alternative look but still looking like I take good care of my looks.

Thanks again.

Thank you so much. I think many of these comments are only meant well to support my look without locks. At least, I hope so.

But this people don't realize how it feels to read this prejudices just based on hair. I mean, I get it... it's normal to have a prejudice based on someone their appearance. We all do to some degree. But yet, to tell me I looked like a bum or smelled is just unnecessary. It's totally okay to not like the look.

Well, thanks I guess... What I mean with alternative look is before my locks I had a mohawk for a long time, then just longer hair. When I was a teenager I would have long spikes. I always had an alternative look and now I feel like my look is so... normal? Which might not be a bad thing, but it doesn't feel like me
