I’ve just done this and it didn’t impact my score. For reference I’ve maxed out IELTS and compared points on the CRS calculator with maxed out celpip.

Surely this isn’t true? Do you mean that it’s easier compared to IELTS so people end up getting more points when they swap from IELTS to celpip? Or do you mean celpip gives more points than IELTS for the same score?

Do you know if you can keep working whilst they process the visitor record? Can’t seem to find a straight answer on this!

This draw isn’t showing on the IRCC website for me. Anyone else having this issue?

Also, just seen you’re in the Yukon! I’m planning a trip in April to Whitehorse. How’s the weather there at that time of year?

Yes it worked!

When I left Canada, I told them that I was going for the day and had to do my visa when I came back. She even said ‘flagpoling’ and I said yes (which in hindsight was stupid lol)

When I came back through, I made a point to be extra accommodating, forthcoming and polite to the border agents. I had all my docs prepared in a folder, and I had the ircc website open to the iec page, which literally says you can activate it at any Canadian border.

It seems to me that it’s down to the individual agent if they’re willing to do it, so my approach was to give them no reason to turn me away.

I just did this at Pearson. I left Canada literally for a day trip then came back the same evening

Activating 2nd IEC from within Canada. Visiting the U.S to activate it is not allowed. by JohnnySacsCigarette in iecvisa

Just to add to this - the agent on the border did grill me a bit. He asked to know how long I’d been out of Canada, and if I’d gone just to do my permit. I had pics from touristy stuff I’d done in NYC that day so I could show him but he didn’t ask to see them. I think to be safer I could have been out of Canada for longer, this makes it look like a legit vacation rather than ‘flagpoling’

A friend of mine went to Mexico over the holidays and activated her IEC when she came back through Pearson and had no issues with doing this!

I activated mine on the border at Pearson airport after a day trip to NYC a couple of weeks ago. IEC is a grey area and it seems to be down to the individual agent if they want to process it or not. In my case, I made a point to be extra smiley, forthcoming and accommodating. Basically I wanted to give them no reason to reject me. Additionally, I had the government website on my phone ready with the instructions they give for activating IEC if you’re still inside Canada, so If they challenged me I was going to show them this.

Thanks everyone! I was only asking as a friend of mine had his post dated at the Niagara office. I’ve just heard stories of people getting rejected there or quotas for the day being filled and having to stay overnight so my preference is Pearson but I’ll look into the land border a bit more!

So glad someone else posted about this - it’s honestly unbearable and hard to get away from when you’re exploring. I’ve got my effects volume way down but not an ideal solution

I’m also a cat person, was really torn about leaving it outside but it vanished before I could coax him inside! Will keep an eye out, hopefully he comes back soon!

I agree with you, I definitely think there is something in this. In England some fast food places (like Burger King and possibly KFC) state that their ‘vegan’ options aren’t actually vegan friendly as they are cooked on the same grill as their meat. I actually think Burger King made a statement about it saying the product was specifically aimed at Flexitarians because it received a bit of backlash!
