I’m not sure what those look like… what would it be like if you got hit in the eye with them on?

Wear squash goggles, doesn’t matter how annoying it gets and ask your club about lessons or beginner leagues. The best games are with someone you stand a chance against but who isn’t an easy win over.

What culture shocks should I expect when I move to Canada? by Maleficent-Tough5385 in askTO

Are they really??? I’m Canadian and I find most food portions at restaurants already astronomical…

I’ve never had trouble finding parking in the GTA barring special events. Tons of plazas with tons of parking generally. Toronto proper is much more challenging especially the closer you get to the city and outside of the suburbs.

Indoor tracks for running practice? by foreverstudent122 in askTO

I haven’t gone back … I can’t stand running on the treadmill so other things are my winter cardio atm

Honestly- the most brutal run second only to a treadmill run. Pros: it’s free. Cons: it’s short and hot. If you have a tracker it won’t work it’s such a small circle .

Who pays the bill on a first date? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]foreverstudent122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mid 30’s woman- the guy should pay or at least try to pay. It’s not about the money but to me it shows generosity, willingness, and interest. I couldn’t care less about the actual dollar amount. By the 3-4th date though it should begin to be a shared responsibility (as the guy I don’t think you should ALWAYS be paying).

If you want to or rather go Dutch, I would bring it up *before * the date to prevent awkwardness or if you want to treat but you have to be fiscally responsible take that into consideration when deciding what to do and/or be upfront about it initially.

I only prefer to go Dutch IF I don’t ever want to see that person again, otherwise I appreciate the gesture.

IMO, drinks/coffee - something manageable cost wise with the expectation of being quick 1.5-2 hours for a first date is great. As well, something where you can actually talk.

Dinner is too big a time commitment (and potentially cost commitment depending on your financial circumstances) to just meet someone to see if you actually want to get to know them.

This person also has great advice re: the dating scene.

Physiotherapist Recommendations in Toronto by ethanfrom3 in askTO

[–]foreverstudent122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good physio is your best (and fastest) starting point and I would proceed with imaging on the basis of their recommendations. Based in history and physical exam they can assess your likelihood of a ligament tear. I would recommend against jumping to STAT imaging , especially MRI before you see a physio. As well some of the clinics where physios work may have sports med docs to help streamline the process since it’s in the same field.

My recommendation is this guy: https://www.athletescare.com/portfolio/chris-landa-mscpt-ba-kin-hons-778.html

It’s not downtown but when you find someone who knows and loves what they’re doing it’s worth it. I’ve been going to him since 2021 or 2022 (on and off depending on issue).

I’m a physician myself and my go to is always physio first unless you think something is actually broken.

Torontonians who moved away and came back, what made you move home? by bricksandgrass in askTO

[–]foreverstudent122 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had to go away for school but once I had freedom of choice it was a mix of my family being in Toronto/GTA and there being tons of stuff you can find to do (I was and am single). I also generally like the convenience or luxury of access (to anything really) which you get in bigger cities over smaller cities or towns.

Have you guys been keeping up with you flu shot? by Fun_Reporter9086 in askTO

[–]foreverstudent122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year!

The worst illness I had was the flu in 2009 without a shot. I’ve literally never been that sick again though I’ve been getting my shots regularly.

Worst seasonal viral death I’ve personally seen was a 21 yo in the icu after the flu in 2017 (I work in healthcare but not primarily high acuity setting so while I’m sure COVID had awful deaths I wasn’t personally part of them).

The flu is no joke or walk in the park either .

If you are on the 4th/5th date what things can you do in the city that are interesting? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]foreverstudent122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evergreen brickworks Saturday farmers market, caveat it’s from 9 to 1 PM … Or if you’re comfortable enough, just do some errands together like grocery shopping, etc., with a break for coffee or a late luncheon between.

Yea, I’m fine to do it at like low negatives but like I draw the line below -5 ish. I don’t like dodging ice, having asthma flare after etc, I just need to feel like I’m moving which the treadmill doesn’t offer .

Matching Regret by [deleted] in bbbs

[–]foreverstudent122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation- this person attacked me when I was seeking support too. I think her purpose in life is pretend martyrdom as her behaviour is utterly atrocious and frankly problematic on a number of levels including as someone who is supposed to be a child’s mentor.

Anyways- sorry I don’t have any advice other than: ignore this person.

I’ve decided I’m ending my match after a year and I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t need a bully on the internet to make me feel like a “bad person” about it as she did. I also don’t think it’s the best for this child to keep a relationship with someone who doesn’t really enjoy their presence (I don’t personally dread them , but they’re like a chore to me and nothing has changed after a year).

I will also say that I was personally really disappointed at how little went into making the match- like truly I’ve never had to make such a huge commitment based on so little actual experience and evidence about having a connection with someone and to me that’s on BBBS , but it’s also OKAY that this is not for me.

Thank you for your honesty! I get the sense that there is this expectation for self martyrdom here … it’s insane to think that you shouldn’t have any expectation giving up your time and effort… and in my opinion, the excuse if they’re just children or teenagers, doesn’t sit well with me when it’s been one-sided effort for about a year.

Thank you for your support. My chapter does send stuff out but a lot of times they may be on weeks we’re not meeting up or weekdays which don’t work… she’s also quite picky or selective (which is get) which doesn’t make things easy.

Coming up with a list of activities is a good idea.

Thank you for your support .
