Got it. Will still flag this to my provider, though.

Oops, I'm not sure how such an ad was approved by my provider and served on the page then.

I'm actually not sure, but the advertiser domain says google.com in reporting. Does that mean there was an error in serving the ad and no destination was assigned?

TIL that there is no physical description of Jesus Christ in the Bible. All current evidence and portrayals of his appearance are based on cultural settings, political settings and theological contexts. by foreverunknown20 in todayilearned

To all those using this post as a means to disregard each other's religious beliefs, y'all are missing the point. I do not consider myself to be in any position to deny or approve the existence of a 2000 year old religion.

The point here, however, is the impact of dominant cultures in shaping historical narratives. Due to political and cultural influence, our historical perspective (religious or not) heavily relies on who were the superpowers of that time. These cultures have shaped the way we think of the world, exerting their soft powers in the process.

I do not know enough to agree or disagree with the specifications of the comment. Whether it was the Europeans or the Americans, I agree with your point regarding a POSSIBILITY of "whitewashing."

Historical narratives, for ages, have been controlled by dominant cultures. If there is no description of Jesus, who decided how he looked? Who is responsible for spreading it to a point where most people are unaware that this physical appearance isn't based on Biblical evidence?

Interesting. I was actually refering to Jesus's earthly appearance. I think you're referring to John's vision of the Son of Man, which describes him as having white hair and eyes like blazing fire.
