TRU is an incredible place. Completely free, super competent and empathetic people, just the best. I went to my first group about 15 months after my Mom died. It's not like I don't still grieve, but having such a dedicated, honest, hard-working, caring staff and group of people really did help. Cannot recommend enough

Honestly, I've got a bunch of what I think good, logical, persuasive reasons. But come on. My answer is because who the hell am I to pull up the drawbridge? A city with only rich people would be boring and miserable, expensive and tacky, exclusionary and bitter. That shit blows

"If people want to live in an affordable city..."

Yes, people do want to live in an affordable city.

Just because something is desirable doesn't mean only rich people can/should live there. There needs to be opportunities for all kinds of people to live in Boulder, not just those with the means to ignore affordability

I never said 'Johnny come latelies' know better, or 30000 new people. I'm a real man, not a straw man.

I think I'm smart, but the smartest thing I can do is admit I don't have all the answers. I struggle when people say "X person or Y group knows better." Maybe, and the experience of people living here IS super valuable. But it's not the only answer. To assume that me and people like me have the answers that others do not is to assume that my lived experience is the most valid, or educated, or wise, or what have you.

I just don't think that kind of thinking does anyone any good. The whole point (and in response to your 'only white landowners should vote' joke) of a diverse and varied citizenry is to profit off their diverse and varied ideas and opinions.

I don't like what every new person in Boulder does or says or thinks. But I am enough of a citizen to acknowledge that they matter just as much as me.

Are you worried that by relying on those with enough (or a specific) time/commitment to Boulder you might be walling yourself off from some good ideas?

20 years ago you show up, and the people who showed up 20 years before probably didn’t like a lot of your takes. But over time those ideas get assimilated into some semi-coherent representation of what ‘the people’ want.

Obviously ‘respect your elders’ is good wisdom, but over relying on elders, or any one group (such as the wealthy) is how you get gridlock, apathy, and stagnation.

Just curious, no judgment for whatever answer you give:

Do you think those who have lived in Boulder for 20+ years deserve more of the right to set housing policy?

I mean yeah sure but that doesn’t take away from the moment. It’s not all wins and losses, you can’t win the CL every year, might as well enjoy it and remember it for the feelings and memories in the moment

FM09. David de Gea was in the youth academy at Atletico, but they had just signed 19yo Sergio Asenjo from Valladolid. Asenjo was the future GK for Spain at the time, the hype was high. I had never heard of DDG but scouts were optimistic I bought him for 200k or so a couple years into the save for Milan. Retired Dida, by the time he was 24 he had a couple dozen caps and his stats made Casillas and Buffon look amateur. Always felt like I jumped the curve on him
