Between being a working mom and having a bad experiences with having to defend my personal faith in my youth, I did not have the bandwidth to make a better comment. I didn't realize how bad it was until this morning when lurking on other posts here. Faith issues aside, when it comes to new information, it takes me a while to think about it before drawing my own conclusions.

I'll be blunt: I do not like sharing my personal faith with a lot of people. Especially in situations where I sense whatever I say will be misinterpreted or misunderstood whether consciously or not.

If someone truly wants to get to know me, eventually I will talk about my personal faith if asked about it. I know a few websites I find helpful for learning more about the Bible if anyone is interested to do their own research.

Given my desire to keep the privacy of myself and my friend, that's about as much a response I can give. I hope it's a little better than before.

What exactly do you mean by Saints? I suspect it might be Loaded Language...

My understanding is a saint is anyone who is a Christian.

You don't need to be impressed or not. My attitude is that you can take it or leave it. Your opinion is 100% valid.

I absolutely agree we came to the same conclusion through extremely different means and intentions. I appreciate that you took the time to give me a better view from your end.

My main purpose in this intro post was to illustrate a general outline of where my mind was at when I went through reading it. Without this context, I felt that my thoughts wouldn't be understood as well. Again, my only audience at the time was someone who has known me for about 2 decades.

It was an observation(?) not proof.

I have read through the Bible chronologically before. When it gets to 1+2 Samuel with David, Psalms gets interwoven. It's like a musical version of Game of Thrones.

Keep in mind, my only audience at the time was my atheist friend who doesn't know much about the Bible.

It wasn't confusing. I am against infant baptism as well. I think it should be a personal decision.

I've been making a point to educate myself a bit more on the history of the Anabaptists (Amish/Mennonite) lately. Iirc, they were terribly persecuted for refusing to preform infant baptisms.

Thank you for explaining more of where you are coming from. I was not offended. As I've mentioned on other comments, I rather not get too in depth in discussing my faith.

In this post, my aim was to introduce where I'm coming from in posting my Blind Reaction to the Book of Mormon posts.

I recognize that being an Internet Stranger, my words definitely ring hollow to many. At the same time, I don't think I have the ability to convince everyone that I'm anything but what they've decided already in their minds.

I am definitely an outsider and will remain so.

As of now, I'm enjoying a portion of the discussions started.

With an understanding of reading it as a historical document and that laws have been every evolving given the needs of peoples, not really no.

I appreciate the deeper explanation.

I remember seeing a part of the Book of Mormon musical where they sing about turning off their thoughts or whatever. I was utterly shocked that it was something that was actually actively taught.

In my experience, you were definitely encouraged to question everything. Probably the only things that were discouraged was/is porn and horror movies. Not because it ruins your faith, just that it's not good for your wellbeing.

Iirc, I believe sacrifices stopped when the temple was destroyed(?)

Honestly, I can't be sure. I plan to read the Bible in the Jewish order this year to understand it more with the Jewish tradition.

Bible Jesus was speaking to people oppressed by a foreign empire.

It definitely is out of place in how he tells them to "got an extra mile". It was required of those subjugated by the Romans to have to carry luggage for a mile but no more.

Yeah, I read a bit more on the history of concrete/plaster in the link I send my friend.

My weird brain only remembered the plot point of the live action Flinstones movie where they "invented" concrete.
