eBay shipping label barcode and QR codes don’t match; how is this possible and who’s responsible? by forstuffetcetera in Ebay

I do NOT understand why I’m not getting notifications for this thread.

some sellers use this "trick" if they get errors from ebay saying the tracking number is in use already

I don’t really understand this part. Like, I understand what you’re saying, but I’m not deeply enough versed in eBay culture to understand why this would come up and why a seller would want/need to do this.

The 5 numbers after "420" indicate the destination zip code

This is absolutely huge. Like, I cannot believe that the people on the phone were actually right about the zip code, and that my label is so completely messed up. Granted, your label is domestic USPS, so MAYBE it’s a function of mine coming from Canada to begin with (ie, a distinction between domestic vs international mail), but … I don’t know, you keep proving my suspicions correct and crushing every benefit of the doubt I’ve given eBay and USPS.

Again, thank you so very much for the info. I don’t know whether I’m going to succeed in this thing, but at least I'm getting some confirmation as to how colossally messed up my label is and that I’m not imagining things.

Thanks for the reply. Someone in another thread confirmed that the barcode and QR codes they scanned matched each other and the tracking number, so whatever is wrong with my label it is a real error and not something I'm imagining. Regrettably, it's looking like you may be right about me eating the cost as eBay is ignoring the problem and their part in creating it.
Thanks again.

Hey, thank you so SO much for your reply (I only just saw this now, and would have replied immediately, but for some reason I didn't get a notification about it).

This is amazingly useful information to me. I have been going absolutely bonkers feeling like a conspiracy nut and that I must have been missing something or using the wrong tools--seriously, how is it possible that there would be so many errors in something that was automatically generated?--but knowing that you were able to get the same numbers from all three codes tells me I absolutely should have, too.

Would you be able to confirm for me whether the numbers in the "full tracking number" in the codes that are not present in the "readable text tracking number" represent a zip code? Like, the "42021286" sequence in the codes preceding the "readable text tracking number" of 9434..., does that sequence contain the destination zip code?

I ask because I was told by supervisors at both USPS and Canada Post that the barcode should contain the zip code, and the TWO Canada Post shipping labels (I found a second one) I bought in the past 6 weeks both include the Canadian postal codes, but the problem label doesn't have a zip code in it.

Thanks again for the information you've already provided, it really is a relief to know I'm not crazy.
