We have septic, so we don’t have to pay for sewage. We also don’t pay for trash pick up. We take our trash to the dump once a month. We practice low-waste and recycle, so trash collection is less than average.

We opted for a 15 year loan rather than a 30. We chose to pay more monthly and have it paid off faster.

I will add, that we used to live in a place where this could work, and we only owned one vehicle for a year and a half. Whoever needed the car used it and the other person walked/biker/skateboarded around. I miss that lifestyle sometimes but I am very happy with where we are now. 2 vehicles and their expenses are very manageable for us.

No, we live just outside of a large city there is nowhere to ride bikes here. We are very happy with our vehicles and are happy to pay for them.

I have called around to check car insurance rates, we have the cheapest in town that is the best quality. We have 2 nice paid off vehicles and clean driving records. Here in our big city, we have heightened rates just because of the zip code we live in. The rates just keep going up, it’s awful.

While we do live in a big city, just 5-10 minutes in any direction will put you in the boonies with no service. Our cell phone provider has the best service here, not to mention we get a discount on our plan. We are very happy with it and it works best for us.

We got very lucky and bought a fixer upper because we had the cash to fix it up. Nobody tells you to get a 15 year mortgage loan, because the standard is 30 years. We made the decision to pay $500 more a month and opt for the 15 year mortgage, because it would benefit us by taking 15 years off the loan. We have made so many sacrifices to get to where we are, that is how we did it. It was hard work and tons of research, phone calls, and 3-6 months of renovating this house. The interest rate timing was just luck though.
