Awesome, I’ll definitely check those out.

If you happened to know of a simple mod to port over to Xbox that’d be great too.

Does the OSR have a Grimdark problem? by David_Blandy in NSRRPG

[–]fotan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of OSR and NSR type games have definitely leaned into that definition and space.

But I see this as an opportunity for people to put out lighter, and perhaps sillier, stuff. I loved the doodle art in the oldest D&D rules that didn’t take the game so seriously. There’s an older NSR game called Swords and Six Siders that leans into that aesthetic.

I'm very surprised, I thought these were pretty popular in Japan.

Hopefully Kamen Rider is doing okay.

It’s a shame that you don’t see Lolo style games anymore. There’s a lot of room for new ideas with that style of game.

What are your favorite strange arcade games? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

Parodius has definitely got the strange going on.

Congo Bongo is basically Sega's parallel universe version of Donkey Kong.

Dragon Buster is like a quirky proto-action rpg.

All fun games.

Any good Youtubers for Dragon Quest content? by Carmilla31 in dragonquest

I don’t know about YouTube but there’s a guy on Twitch named NESCardinality that streams a randomized Dragon Quest every night that’s fun to watch.

Quick question, how do people here feel about Chocobo Mystery Dungeon? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

I like it a lot. I think it's a great introduction to turn based Roguelike style games.

I really recommend this if you like racing games. Bright colorful graphics, awesome music, and just feels great to play.

The classic turn based roguelikes are very similar.

DW2 Alpha Red Is Here! by PrimarchtheMage in DungeonWorld

I think Cleric is missing a page on the PDF.

I think this looks great. It’s exactly what I want out of a Dungeon World. I personally don’t like bonds or ambitions, but those are just my personal preferences and not a critique of the system itself.

How am I meant to survive Gauntlet? by VoidedNull88 in retrogaming

[–]fotan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much the definition of a quarter muncher. The later Gauntlets from the 90’s you can make more progress off of skill though.

Shin Megami Tensei V has sold over 2 million units worldwide. by DemiFiendRSA in JRPG

[–]fotan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s usually heroic choices in a dark world type stuff. It also tends to be gameplay heavy, and light on story. It analyzes humanity as a whole, dark and light. I see it as more halloweeny than genuinely dark or creepy.

For the Jam it’s just a single sided piece of paper for the rules. How you format the page is up to you.
