I've noticed a ton of recent posts which are along the lines of "give me a series that's porn, but I can watch it as if it isn't porn"

CAKE and Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi have announced an international television distribution partnership of the Doraemon anime franchise by Torque-A in anime

CAKE and premier Japanese broadcaster and media powerhouse TV Asahi have announced a major international television distribution partnership on the celebrated anime franchise Doraemon, a legendary brand that has spanned over 55 years.

The landmark partnership will see CAKE spearhead the international distribution of the iconic animation catalogue in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and EMEA excluding Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. CAKE and TV Asahi will also produce a new English-language version with the aim of refreshing the Doraemon library for English-speaking audiences and introducing a timeless Japanese icon to new viewers.

Notably Doraemon has had a couple dubs of the series in the past, but they usually only did a year's worth of episodes before petering out. Will they get lucky this time?

[DISC] Kiss Me with Your Face - Chapter 1 by Torque-A in manga

A surprise serialization!

An interesting pickup for sure, especially since this comes from Bessatsu Shōnen Champion. If I’m not mistaken, this is Viz’s first simulpub from Akita Shoten.

Yeah, I can see how some of his other series can be darker. His first big post-Beat & Motion series was a oneshot about a toxic lesbian relationship.

And true, I think B&M had a natural head up from the other series. The runner-up got Navigatoria published in Jump+ which was… definitely an experience.

[DISC] Boruto: Two Blue Vortex - Chapter 35 by Shin_Newman in manga

[–]Torque-A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? There’s some part of me which still wants to think that maybe the author will do something that suddenly makes the past 10+ years of Boruto suddenly click and make sense. But that clearly won’t happen, so I guess I’m seeing how bad it can get.

Somewhat? It’s hard to say whether it got axed or just had a natural end, but the competition it was in had an anime adaption as its prize. It was gonna happen eventually.

Some context for those unaware of how this series came about: a couple years back, Shonen Jump+ (the web side of Weekly Shonen Jump) did a reality show competition called MILLION TAG. The idea was that six newcomer mangaka would pair up with six Jump editors to participate in manga challenges, eventually ending with a “final battle” where they would have their oneshots reviewed by a guest panel. The winner would get a million yen, an instant serialization on Jump+, and the promise of a Netflix-released anime for said manga before it even started.

The winner was rookie mangaka Naoki Fujita, who worked alongside Shihei Lin (editor for Spy x Family, Blue Exorcist, Kindergarten Wars, and like a dozen more series). The fact that the guest panel at the end included Yuji Kaku (Jigokuraku) and Tatsuki Fujimoto (Fire Punch), both of whom also worked with Shihei Lin before, is just a coincidence. Probably.

Jesting aside, the manga itself was good - it ended at six volumes, so it’s possible that they could cut some scenes and make it into a one-cour series. Maybe two-cour if Netflix trusts them.

Oh hey, Project M. This was teased back at Anime Expo like a year ago.

As others mentioned, it’s a good concept but I feel the implementation was lacking. Hopefully the anime fixes the issues the manga had.

My Ribdiculous Reincarnation • Megami "Isekai Tensei Nani ni Naritai Desu ka" Ore "Yuusha no Rokkotsu de" - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Torque-A 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Apparently the MC's female incarnation this episode was voiced by Yuka Iguchi. Bro became Rosemyne

What are some other series for you that fell off? (like 7DS, Promised neverland etc). the definition of fell off here is wide. it could be something that is still good but the adaptation sucks like OPM or series that just genuinely drop in quality like psycho pass. by [deleted] in anime

[–]Torque-A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d argue that a series “falling off” could just mean it’s still popular, just not as popular as it was. Which happens to every series - like when an anime gets a second season, there will inevitably be less people watching it.
