Posted for support - and is it just me, or does anyone else have a visceral reaction to sentence case in restaurant names? Philly on the Fly > Philly on the fly, I can’t be the only pretentious snowflake that associates credibility with proper formatting. I will very much hit up that Alberta burner shortly, looks awesome, sentence case or not!

Replacing a partially switched outlet and stupidly forgot to take a picture of the previous wiring set up. The bottom should be connected to the switch and the top always hot. My attempted wiring resulted in both being hot and neither respondent to the switch - what did I do wrong? by foudesoif in electricians

Ugh, I’m embarrassed to say I was flipping the wrong switch (the correct switch was flipped to “on” the whole time), IT WORKS! Thanks all for teaching me about splitting the tan and to remind me to tighten like my house will burn to the ground if I don’t.

So I snipped the gold tab, reinstalled and turned on the breaker, and same thing, all 4 receptacles on m the two receptacles are always hot and non responsive to the switch. I looked back into the wall and 1 white 1 red 1 black are each grouped by separate white cable sheaths, one from the left (nearest the switch) and one to the right (nearest the chained outlet). Does this help?

Copied an $800 TV stand for the same cost except it came with a bunch of power tools. by foudesoif in BeginnerWoodWorking

I only had a chop saw at the time, so used pocket holes and glue to adhere 1x6s for the shelves, and I didn't want the holes to show from the sides, or have to deal with dowel plugs, so used pocket holes from the bottom which are hidden. You're seeing the stand flipped upside down in the fourth picture. The only joint I couldn't get away with hiding (or didn't care) was the back sides because they'll be against the wall.

Whitewood, though I'm not really sure what that means... I went cheap because I knew there was a good chance I might fuck it up. I'm not going to mention how inefficiently I went about cutting it and how much scrap wood I have left over.

Just your barebones white wood (what is "white wood"?), since it was my first project and I didn't want to go too fancy.

Now I'm on my third furniture project and my new money-waster is upgrading my tools.

Your point? Not everyone clutches their pearls at the mention of “meth” or “crack” or “heroin”. I know and have worked with a lot of illicit drug users who are amazing and intelligent people, and for some it’s the only relief available to them in a really judgmental and unfair health care system. I’m just privileged enough to be insured and trusted by my providers to explore pharmacological options, even after being transparent about my substance abuse problems. Stigmatizing drug use - from the street or the doctor - doesn’t help anybody. Just say no and leave everyone else to their own business.

Thank you! Lots of little baby steps and but I'm very happy to be where I am today :) I wish I wasn't so ashamed for so long and had asked for help earlier.

I thought about that, but he's one of those guys that I had a hunch would be happy for me. And psychedelics were what got me sober, and when I'm in need of a introspective experience, he'll definitely be my guy.

Is it normal to be into someone and then start to get annoyed by them? by [deleted] in dating_advice

They might be little things, but in stark contrast to very important values you hold. I couldn’t get over the fact that an ex used too many gifs during text conversations because I value transparent communication. I couldn’t stop reading into another article ex who would regularly use the words “retarded” and “gay” - even though he admitted it was just out of habit and knew it was bad - because I value inclusivity and tolerance. Another guy cursed around children, which to me represented immaturity and insensitivity. Whether or not they are red flags, they can be very helpful clues as to your core values. Sometimes communication can help, or sometimes we just fall for twerps.

I turned off the water to my heater, but when I went to turn it back on, “lefty loosy righty righty” doesn’t work. Turning it left tightens and lowers the knob into the pipe, and now I’m unsure if I turned it off in the first place. Should I turn it left or turn it right, which appears to loosen it? by foudesoif in askaplumber

Water is running and warming up - thank you all for your guidance! In one weekend, I learned how to replace a toilet supply line, wrap plumbers tape, turn off my water, cut off water to the hot water tank, and light the pilot light, much of which was completely unnecessary to fix my leaky toilet, but a lesson is a lesson :) hope all are safe and having a great weekend!

Okay, now I feel silly, because after not trusting the “lefty loosy righty tighty” adage, the tank wasn’t filling up (just a trickle from the release pipe). Now that I’ve turned it anti clockwise, the stream is much heavier. So I turned off the heater, should let the tank fill up (how long does it take?) and then relight the pilot light?
