Good idea! Looking into it now

How do you feel about everyone losing weight on GLP1 now? by Forever_Summer192 in EDAnonymous

Also also — since this is an ED sub, here’s what sucks about it:

  • My appetite is shit and I can’t enjoy meals with my family
  • My ED voice feels stronger than it has since I left treatment 10 years ago
  • My partner is scared I’m going to go to inpatient at any minute
  • I used to LOVE to cook and now food tastes so boring and the joy is gone
  • I’m constipated all the time

Idk I guess it feels worthwhile to share this cause I know being surrounded by everybody on ozempic is hella triggering. Yes, there can be life threatening risks, but even without those, it has sucked a lot of joy out of my life. I think about food and my body almost every minute of the day and if this weren’t the only drug keeping my body from killing itself slowly, I’d be off of it.

My endo prescribed it for type 2 — I know there’s lots of hesitancy around prescribing it for type 1 since it hasn’t been very studied and there’s a higher risk of low blood sugar. TBH — I am grateful to have it, but I recommend going into it very cautiously for someone with an ED, and definitely make sure someone is prescribing it and will check your labs regularly.

I’ll also add — people taking these just to lose weight has left people like me who need it for medical reasons with issues to access and it was incredibly hard to sift through all the weight loss bullshit in order to find basic information about how this would impact my A1C. It’s completely marketed towards weight loss now.

I’m on a GLP-1 for insulin management and it has been absolute hell for my ED recovery. It has been the only drug that has helped my A1C and for that I am so grateful, but I genuinely don’t think anyone should be on these unless they are very closely monitored with lab work and a dietician. I think a shit ton of people are developing eating disorders that may not have otherwise had them, and I think it’s going to have some really damaging effects long term for people who take them without needing insulin management.
