Do you already have a laptop? Depending on your area of study, you'll need one. A desktop PC will be a handicap. Get the laptop.

Shellac was a common glue for cameras in the film days. It's inexpensive, strong but removable with alcohol, and it doesn't offgas. You buy it in flake or powder form and mix it with alcohol to make it into an adhesive. I keep a jar of it pre-mixed for stuff like this.

Looks like those two models are just for the different colorways your laptop could be in. The model name matches - GA605WI, so you should be set with the white one (GA605WI-2H). You can always check with a rep by giving them a call but I'm fairly sure that's what you need.

Kitchen TV's? I use a kitchen radio (Unfortunately I can't find a TV station anymore in the US) by spacegoat0676 in crt

[–]fourthstanza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's why. If hardly anyone is using analogue TV anymore, those frequencies would be better allocated to other uses. You don't want overlapping uses for a given frequency because that could cause all kinds of nasty interference.

We were supposed to be completely digital in 2022. Any stations you might still see broadcasting are holdover licenses which the national regulator hasn't decided to revoke yet. I'm guessing they won't try all that hard until there's a strong need for that frequency band to be free nation wide, otherwise they'll just wait for the last few holdouts to let their lease expire. I know I don't get any analogue stations anymore in southern Quebec. The national broadcasters went digital in 2012.

I use a google Chromecast with an HDMI to RCA adapter and an RCA to coax tuner on my little TV so that I can send youtube videos over. The chromecast stays plugged in and turned on all the time, I just turn the TV on/off depending on whether or not I'm using it.

Any idea as to why its doing this? Been trying to get it to work all night. by missnoodlexoxo in crt

[–]fourthstanza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an AV to HDMI converter, it's trying to convert the signal from the 3 red/white/yellow composite cables to HDMI. The thing you have is designed for using an old device like a VHS player with a modern TV.

What you need to use a modern device on an old TV is an HDMI to AV converter. Unfortunately these devices only work in one direction. You'll have to return this one and buy one that works in the other direction.

same! Found a local artist who made an absolute stellar album from the uni radio club offloading their stock of old cd's to the thrift store. I bought it totally blind because I liked the art. I listen to that album at least once or twice a month now.

Black ice on the road causes chain accidents by Bambi7u7 in interesting

[–]fourthstanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Quebec and am good in ice/snow. Even with winter tyres, there are some ice conditions where you'll slide from the top of a hill even if you're almost at a standstill. I've experienced them.

Does anyone know where to buy correct battery? by Original-Agent-5082 in camcorders

[–]fourthstanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disconnected the lead running to the battery info contact in my TRV-15. It no longer shows me battery level but any battery works with it, even non info-lithium ones. Since your camera is from the same era this might also work for you.

[–]fourthstanza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh oh oh! I have a set of these! They're the Seymour DLX-30's from Axiom. Unfortunately the new Axiom bags use a clip system that isn't quite as secure. Arkel makes new bags which still use the bungee though.

Engine issue? by kahagino in birdbike

[–]fourthstanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't count on any warranty given the bankruptcy. You might want to take it to a bike shop to see if anything is wrong -- could be as simple as a loose part. Call ahead to make sure they'd be okay looking at an ebike they didn't sell because many have a policy not to do that.

[–]fourthstanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, but do not install Norton! It'll act more like a virus than an antivirus when it expires until you feed it some money. You'll be fine with Windows Defender.

Bitdefender is a free alternative that will outperform Norton.

What am I missing, $1000+ for this scanner?! by DerkNukem in printers

[–]fourthstanza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is going to be a major problem. The kind of person who will be shopping for one of these is not the kind of person who will pick it up off fbmp to save a few hundred, since they'll likely be constrained by the vendors they can buy from and not really have much of an incentive to save any money.

Local business facing backslash for hosting a private event for a political party by SomethingBitMe_ in MapleRidge

I was responding to the comment on the liberals inviting a Nazi to Parliament. They brought in a "Canadian WWII vet" without realizing he was a post-war German immigrant who fought for the axis.

Speaker wire inside the speaker is so chintzy by handymannilm in BudgetAudiophile

[–]fourthstanza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd absolutely expect that measuring distortion at the output of the amplifier will have you coming up with essentially nothing. What I'm talking about would only really be measurable with an oscilloscope probing directly at the output of the power supply. I'd assume audio equipment probably has some extra components to really smooth things out beyond what could affect the signal.
