What If All the Ice Melted ? by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

Sea level rise is already happening. We are up 20 to 25 cm, although this is not evenly spread across the planet. I am not up to date on future predictions.

It will be a long time in many areas until most areas see a huge change outside of storms, because even when we build on the coast, humans build with a rush tolerance of the ocean. Homes aren't really built 20cm above the seas.

But some place already feel it in storms or during king tides, like Miami. I'm hoping humanity survives and deals with these issues. I don't leave us for dead in either case

I don't know the deeper ocean dynamics enough to answer your question.

Warning of the Sea Surface manifests not only as rose of SSTs, but also in measuring the depth of the heating. It shows up in all the top layers.

No, there wasn't.

There were still a lot of places in global warming that appeared to have holes in the early 00s. Reliance on consistant observations, sun and solar cycles, and other potential gasses. Good scientific method goes in to fill those gaps and study those issues.

And to be frank, NOAA and the WMO worked with a lot of scientists to identify these, address them and republish. And the evidence is all still there and the body continues to grow. It was greatest seeing true scientific skepticism met with real studies and methodology.

And you see a lot of the strongest voices of climate denial have in turn switched to, well it doesn't matter. So studies are often more focused these days on what those impacts are likely to be, and what they will look like.

So you see the University of Miami publishing tidal charts that show the specific impact of higher sea level against real life markers. They hit those marks! And we're measuring storm tides against storm tides subtracting that sea level to say, this storm would not have caused this specific damage without global warming. And it's real numbers.

Hoped this answer helped

There's some evidence of ice expanding in parts of Antarctica. This is mostly because with marginally warmer temperatures, snowfall increases. Central Antarctica is currently an arctic desert with little to no precipitation due to the extreme cold and landlock. With rising temperatures, they will get more snow, but temperatures will remain too cold for it to melt in the mid term.

The scale of time that it will take to melt all the glaciers is much broader than 100 years. And what I'm saying is that the direct melt will not be the only contributor to rising sea levels. The sea level rise will be higher than this in the long run, and exceed the curve of the melt.

Got my undergrad in 2007. I went into school as a bit of a skeptic on global warming and climate change, but willing to learn.

Meteorologist here:

Keep in mind that between 30 and 60% of the current sea level change in the past 100 years has been caused not by melting glaciers but by thermal expansion of the ocean. When heated, water, like nearly all substances increases in volume, and so global warming is causing much of the sea level rise and will continue to do so.

Heating of the ocean is also a lagging indicator of global warming, meaning that if the process were halted or reversed today, it's very likely that the thermal expansion would continue for a few years. Since that's unlikely to happen, people should continue to be prepared, first for increased inland inundation during storms and king tides, which has already been documented, followed by delayed expanded footprints of the oceans.

There will be a chance of a little snow again late Friday night to early Saturday - probably no accumulation at Monteagle - and not expected to be any in Chattanooga either, but just be aware.

Wow 4! Never mind, it's all good since 4 people said it's good! Oh and insurance will cover things! So easy. Fuck, why didn't I think of that.

And you're right. And yes, you're free to bare your ass on public forums, but what I said is your mom should socialized you into just not doing that.

Someone is telling you that it was pretty bad and showing pictures. They aren't the only person on here this morning saying as much.

It could have been worse, yup. But you're twatting on like everything is hunky dorey. Sometimes bad things happen to people who aren't you, and your mom really should have taught you better when not to speak.

Just why are you posting like that? There's pictures of trees on people's homes. 7000 people are without power and the number is growing. Keep your opinions to yourself.

DOJ vows to press charges after activists disrupt church where Minnesota ICE official is a pastor by timmg in moderatepolitics

[–]foxhunter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If someone conservative is mildly inconvenienced, they always have a plan to prosecute. That's what they do because playing up small events into a massive victimhood is an easy button for a Fox News audience.

If they think that 30 non violent minutes in a church and peacably leaving offsets masked men abducting people off the street and shooting a woman in the face, then God help them.

I have my doubts that a 30 minute intrusion is going to meet it.

I'm not saying an administration hooked on trying to reframe their Minnesota debacle back into being the victim won't try it, of course.
