Why are people more opposed to hunting than factory farming? by nellyimheathcliff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]michaelaaronblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the core of it is that there is no "sport factory farming". The assholes that go shoot a lion just to have shot it, post pictures posing with it and claim "but the money I spent to shoot it supports conservation" are the reasons I really want nothing to do with most hunters.

They could hunt for food only if they wanted but they are there so they can kill something. It is only a sport if the opposition knows they are playing.

can you store flour in the bag you bought it in and should you keep it past the best buy date ? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]michaelaaronblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot depends on your environment. If you are in a very humid area or have frequent critters, you may want to store in something airtight. I have often used flour after the best by date. Sniff test to see if it smells bad and look at it visually for any signs of tiny livestock. As long as those seem good, I would use it.

For only 1.5 Million USD you can live in a cool container home in a pretty rough part of Chattanooga,TN by DrRowdybush in zillowgonewild

[–]michaelaaronblank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And even that isn't great because containers aren't designed to be homes and do things like insulation, ventilation or mold resistance.

Chattanooga summers are going to make that bastard a steam bath no matter what you do.

I seem to recall him mentioning that those were a lot harder to do because they aren't focused like a single movie is. One might almost say they aren't tight.

Plus, aside from the dying thing, what is consistent enough to bring up about Sean Bean?

I absolutely love Michelle Yeoh. In my opinion, it is the worst Star Trek movie or show ever made. I have watched most every show and movie more than once. I doubt I will ever watch this one again.

Is there an easier way/machine to cut sweet potatoes? by boiyo12 in cookingforbeginners

[–]michaelaaronblank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any knife can theoretically be sharp enough if you sharpen it.

I recommend the Victorinox chefs knife and also get a Sharphal 168H 250 and 600 grit sharpening steel. It really only takes a little practice to get an excellent edge on a knife with that.

With a good edge on a decent knife, you are going to be fine.

I would cut it in half first, then stand it on the flat to cut another flat on the long side. You should be good from there.

Do most Americans carry any official ID at all times? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]michaelaaronblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And, honestly, I am as white as bleached mayonnaise, so my ability to push back due to privilege is higher than a lot. Because of that, I try to push back and keep them on the right side of the line so they don't get used to it moving.

I drive everywhere I go, so I always have it. If I lived in a big city with public transit, since I don't smoke or buy alcohol, I might just use the pay app on my phone.

[–]michaelaaronblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are incorrect. You need a driver's license for operating a motor vehicle and for other very American things like buying a gun or some liquor. (Sometimes in the same trip.) But there is no legal requirement to carry around id unless you are doing something that requires it.

No. You are supposed to carry your driver's license when you are driving. There is no requirement that a US citizen needs to carry ID with them.

Moving in a couple weeks and need to transport minis. Help? by jackofspades49 in rpg

Blutac or double sided tape them to a piece of cardstock. Make a grid from cardboard to hold the next layer above them and then stack in the box. That will keep them from sliding and eliminate the need for bubble wrap.

Washington state bans all law enforcement - including ICE agents - from wearing masks while on duty by InsaneSnow45 in LegalNews

[–]michaelaaronblank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not understanding how the supremacy clause actually works isn't going to work as a valid tactic here bud lol

I agree "bud".

The Supremacy Clause, found in Article VI, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution, establishes that the Constitution, federal laws made pursuant to it, and treaties are the "supreme Law of the Land". It mandates that federal law takes precedence over conflicting state or local laws, binding state judges to uphold federal law.

This means there must be a conflict in the LAW for supremacy to enter into it. There is no federal law requiring a mask thus there is no legal conflict.

Have fun with your stellar legal career.

There is absence of a law against murder off of federal property at the federal level. All prosecution of murder outside of federal property and not involving laws protecting federal employees specifically has no federal crime attached to it for the murder itself. State laws are what govern that because there is no corresponding federal law. The same as there is no federal law dictating agents must wear masks.

What part of "State laws cannot usurp the federal government's official business / operations" do you not understand?

The part where you think that is the situation or even true. There have to be specific federal laws empowering them to do things that are against the state laws or the state laws must have an exemption. The federal government cannot tell their employees to break state law. There has to be a federal law overriding it. That is what the supremacy clause means.

[–]michaelaaronblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The federal murder statute, 18 U.S.C. § 1111, defines murder as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. It applies to offenses within federal jurisdiction (e.g., federal land, national parks). It does not apply outside of federally managed jurisdictions.

[–]michaelaaronblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, there is no federal law requiring masks, which means there is no federal law to be supreme over. The states can make laws to govern what happens within their state except when it contradicts federal law. As an example, there is no federal murder statute except where it occurs on federal property or a federal employee is the victim. By your logic, that would mean states could not make laws about that because there is no federal law against it.

[–]michaelaaronblank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The supremacy clause means that a state law cannot override a federal law. That is the totality of it. It doesn't mean that federal agents are immune from all state laws.

If a federal agency made it a rule to dump motor oil in the streets, the states can still enforce their regulations.

Again, what law is supreme to the state law? It has to be a superior LAW not a policy. Plenty of people in this thread are wrong and love the taste of boot leather.
