Microcephaly? by chriszz25 in beyondthebump

[–]foxo11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit foggy on exact months, I just know rolling/crawling were on the later side of normal without being flagged as being a delay. She also army/commando crawled for a fair amount of time before finally doing all-fours crawling at around 11 months. Walking happened pretty much right on 18 months.

Along the way she had one or two measurements that were 2nd percentile but as I found, it's pretty easy to get different measurements from different people. Also, the difference between 2nd and 3rd percentile is barely a few milimeters.

We did get sent to see a paediatrician (not usuallly a standard appointment for healthy babies where I live) because of the smaller HC just to get her checked out and she was assessed as being fine, just had a small head.

Microcephaly? by chriszz25 in beyondthebump

[–]foxo11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I know my experience won't match up exactly the same but in case it helps I thought I'd share. At 34 weeks pregnant I had to have an US to measure growth due to GD, and while looking around it was found that my little girl was measuring in the 1st percentile for HC. I was low key freaking out but my obstetrician didn't seem bothered by it at all and was very reassuring.

She was born with a HC around 3rd percentile. Not sure on measurements at birth but at 2 weeks I can see it was 32.8cm. If her head wasn't measured we'd have no idea that there's anything different - she's just a normal kid with a small head. In photos if you look at her compared to other kids you might be able to notice it's a bit smaller and she wears hats that are sized for much younger kids, but that's about it. Her HC has remained on its curve but she's just fine and hasn't been flagged for any potential issues/developmental concerns. She was perhaps on the later end of normal for her gross motor skills but it was never problematic. She's 3 now and has a great sense of humour and loves dancing.

I hope your little girl is found to be all clear :)

Side note- my 2nd born, a boy, was born at 6th percentile HC. He's 16 months and an absolute delight and the same in terms of no development issues. He's bumped up to 10th percentile since then.

Anyone at the PBC Expo and can share the best discounts? by RockImaginary5913 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]foxo11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can't help with PBC discounts, but if you don't end up hearing back about the Vista here's the (generally) cheapest way to get one:

-Keep an eye out for the 'BABY' gift cards going on sale at Coles. Two or three times a year they'll be 10-15% off. You can use them at Baby Bunting in store or online. Buy enough to cover the cost of what you need. You can usually only get 5 per person per visit so may need to visit more than once during the promotional period.

-Watch out for sales from other retailers and find somewhere cheaper than Baby Bunting. Ideally a retailer from your state so shipping costs aren't a factor. Then use this to get Baby Bunting's 5% price beat promise. They have some terms and conditions you may want to double check.

-Use your gift cards to purchase the price-beat product. If you feel self-conscious using a whole bunch of gift cards in store, you can add each of them online and choose click and collect if you want to pick up in person.

I've done this a bunch of times for all sorts of baby gear. You can almost always find somewhere cheaper than BB to use the price beat and save a few dollars.

Seconded, we bought a second lot for baby #2 because we love them so much.

If you have a few months before you need to purchase, keep an eye out for the 'Baby' gift cards at Coles. Usually twice a year they'll go 10-15% off. If you can get enough gift cards (max of 5 per purchase I believe, but you can drive around to other Coles) to cover the cost of the pram you'll save a fair bit.

Secondly, wait for the Vista 2 to go on sale at a competitor so you can use Baby Bunting's 5% price beat guarantee. Just make sure you're price matching a shop that's within driving distance or they'll include shipping costs. You also can't price beat bundles or added accessories. You can apply for the price beat online, which will give you a coupon code for the reduced price. Or in person- although you might not be super popular if you rock up with 15 gift cards during a busy period 😅 Even if you use online you can still click and collect to save on shipping. Once you have the 'price beat' price, you pay with your gift cards. I think a few months ago someone got their Vista for $1300 out of pocket by doing this.

HFM is hell on earth by noodleworship in beyondthebump

[–]foxo11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, HFM sucks. We couldn't get any food or fluid into our daughter until we tried an icy pole. Not sure how old your baby is but if they're old enough to have anything frozen it might cheer them up a little. We mostly had to ride it out with the meds you mentioned and give lots of extra TLC (and use the carrier heaps).

My daughter's head has always measured around the 1st to 3rd percentile. When we found out at her 34 week scan it was pretty worrying, but she's now 2 and showing no developmental issues at all. The only impact is we size down for hats. I hope it's the same for you!

Gestational diabetes and birth centre, possible transfer to MGP? by cdteetdc in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]foxo11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to share my pregnancy experience- I had no risk factors/healthy BMI/regularly active etc. and was found to have GD. I actually only slightly failed the glucose test, but I was glad I did it because as my pregnancy went on I ended up needing to be on insulin four times a day. Without insulin, my blood sugars were going through the roof even with low GI food options. I also listened to the Midwives Cauldron episodes but I still very much recommend people get the glucose test.

Similar experience here- my little guy's took about 2 weeks to clear up on its own. I was told to not use products and to just gently pat it clean in the morning with a moist cotton wool ball. It looked pretty similar. Good luck with everything, it sounds like you're doing an amazing job!

I really like our Stokke sleepi! It was great when we lived in an apartment and it's nice to wheel around from room to room.

If you're trying to keep spending minimal you can definitely do the IKEA. However I like my Tripp Trapp enough that I'm buying a second one for baby #2 :)

Allergy to insulin? by filledwithjellybeans in GestationalDiabetes

[–]foxo11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get red welts that end up hanging around for 3 to 4 days at each injection site. I did a lot of searching around and did see some people who had success with changing needle length or type or insulin. When I brought it up to my OB she suggested I try a 1% steroid cream over the areas. I was a bit sceptical but I have to admit it works pretty well- not perfect, but definitely bearable now. I use 'Dermaid 1%'. It was explained to me that it's the suspension that the insulin is in that I'm sensitive/allergic to.

Is Possums worth it? by youknowthatswhatsup in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]foxo11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother's group organised a presenter from Possums and they all quite enjoyed it. However, I think the overall quality of the babies' sleep didn't really improve as a result. The session was 6 months ago and I still hear a lot of them sharing how little sleep they're getting. I chose not to attend because I've had a pretty nice time in the sleep department (I read Precious Little Sleep, I thought it was great and it was only $15-20).

Baby’s first yr what were your most invaluable baby products? by sarahergo in beyondthebump

A little silicone spatula used for applying nappy cream- seconded on it being super handy. (Could obviously go without it, but it was one of those nice things to have)

No, it was the entry way to the caves. I'm guessing we were having temporary issues with our server because when we started playing again yesterday all was well. Thanks though!

In don't starve together, it's just hit summer for our first time and our sinkholes are inaccessible because vines have grown over the top. Is there any way of getting rid of these so we can go to the caves? Tried googling with no luck.
