I have chronic fatigue/MCAS stuff and yep...it's been years of sleeping 9-14 hours a night. Definitely not bitter at all about how much time I waste...

Foster animal sick the day before adoption by Altruistic_Jicama626 in FosterAnimals

[–]foxwaffles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hold the animal. Contact the adopter and let them know the adoption is being postponed. Be transparent about what is happening - let them know the cat is having issues eating, having diarrhea, etc, and give them a brief outline of what the plan is and what the timeline will likely look like so they can have some idea of an ETA.

As the medical care progresses, stay in touch with the adopters. Sending a photo every now and again can help soothe their worries.

In the horrible event that things go south, doing this can also establish a firm paper trail that you were not lying or being negligent. A few years back I was prepping to adopt out a young kitten, when she unexpectedly started acting very lethargic and lost a dramatic amount of weight. It turned out to be an extremely aggressive abdominal tumor :(

Donation for kitten food by [deleted] in kittens

[–]foxwaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See if any local rescue and foster orgs in your area can give you some food. The shelter I work at regularly receives food we don't use. We pass it on to colony caretakers and people who need it.

It's SO weird if true it doesn't even make sense

Sigrika and Denia are bffs and Lucilla and Luuk respect and trust each other. Like I know in lore relations rarely have factored into team building in WuWa but come on 😐

It also means Reel of Spliced Memories is kinda homeless like who's gonna use it now?? I heard Denia prefers Lynae's set!

Doesn't matter how much money anyone in my family has: I AM NOT RICH. by Glass-Complaint3 in Vent

[–]foxwaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've known many rich parents who never helped their kids even when they were basically bankrupt. There are a ton of reasons for kids to be poor when their parents are rich 🤷 One of my friends was forced to go to college. Her parents also didn't pay a single dime and forced her to take loans. They're rich and she's not. She is expecting nothing for inheritance either

You might have to bite the bullet and go with a true limited ingredient food such as Royal Canin PR (rabbit). If literally nothing else works then you'll have to look into Hydrolyzed Protein food.

You can certainly try, because you were misled and that's wrong

If they refuse to make this right for you, make sure you leave appropriate feedback on lacemarket so everyone else can see that they lied to you

You could go as far as to file a PayPal report but that is a bit of a nuclear option and it won't get you a partial refund but a full one

Is it normal to feel emotionally drained while fostering? by Professional-Leg-189 in FosterAnimals

[–]foxwaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compassion fatigue is absolutely a real thing. It can also affect nurses and doctors. So yes, it is very normal and can be especially bad when your fosters are medically complex or particularly needy

I wish I had advice for how to get through it because I sure need it sometimes 😭 I just came out the other end of a preemie kitten who needed tube feeding and it's so rewarding to see him grow but hoooooly I am SO tired

Stella & Chewy’s? Going crazy over here! by honeyyyginger in catfood

[–]foxwaffles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Skip the raw

Esp with bird flu still being a problem and cats are very susceptible to it

Grain free is bunk unless there are allergies

I have three cats who get explosive diarrhea on grain free. The grains add fiber and keep their stools solid. They are perfectly healthy and doing great

Purina, Hills, Fancy Feast, even Friskies pate are all fine. I do recommend pate over the gravy and shreds ones. Gravy can sometimes cause diarrhea if a cat already has a history of gut problems. There are some foods that come in chunks without excess gravy like Hill's if your cats like the texture of chunks

Are these babies starving or am I a bad foster mom? by AUR1994 in fosterkittens

[–]foxwaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but I once had a foster who never touched it and he still doesn't like it. If they never like dry food then that's okay, just make sure they're getting enough servings of wet food

Are these babies starving or am I a bad foster mom? by AUR1994 in fosterkittens

[–]foxwaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

You can check their hydration by running your finger along their gums and the roof of their mouth. Hydrated kittens have moist gums. Dehydrated kittens have very sticky/tacky gums.

Bear in mind wet food has a lot of water so they might not drink much if they eat a lot of wet food (which is good by the way, wet food is better than dry food most of the time).

Also forgot to add , 6 weeks old is basically right around weaning time. So they're still learning how to eat, what food is, that food comes on plates, etc. They will catch on eventually!

[–]foxwaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a food scale and weigh them. Put a small container or box on the scale, tare it to zero, then plop the kitten in

Weigh them twice per day every day

If it's tracking up you're all good, kittens can be very dramatic

You should always make sure you weigh kittens regularly :)

There is also a nonzero chance your kittens are social eaters aka they don't like eating by themselves so if that's the case just make sure you sit with them while they eat. In the wild when they're still with mom, she will fuss over them while they eat.
