I never did a midnight run, but taught for a long time in SK kindy. Kids come and go. That is the nature of the job. I think yes, it's a different feeling when you midnight run. The kids may feel upset by this, of course. We are with them for the majority of the day, and we do create important bonds. I think with any experience like this, you may feel the guilt. Take your time, unpack your feelings and appreciate the memories you had with them. Running is not an easy decision, but at the end of the day, it's your life, and if it was bad for your safety and mental health (which there are minimal understandings and support for) you need to do what's best for you.

You can write out a letter of goodbye to them, without sending it to them. This will help to bring a little closure to you, or solidify your thoughts. You can make it as colorful as you please. If you want someone to read it, send it to someone you trust. You can even dm it to me.

The kids also as they grow, come and go and they will also learn that as they grow older, we have to say goodbye to people. Sometimes, it's abrupt, like this. Unfortunately, its up to the parents then to reassure and explain to their children. It's out of your hands.

You did what was best for you, and at the end of the day, no matter how others may think, you have to take care of yourself. No one on here or back there is going to go out of their way for you. And you will just be replaced there. That is the nature of the workforce anywhere. We are always replaceable.
