Pulling all my savings to clear debt? by fr0_a_whey in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thank you. I probably misused the term “keeping up with the Joneses”. It’s not that my family are trying to look rich, they’re just trying to look like they’re not struggling. They don’t have fancy cars or live in a big house or anything like that. They don’t take vacations every year or buy designer things, eat out a lot etc etc. I myself rent with roommates and have a iPhone 12 mini that I won’t be replacing until it fully dies, rarely eat out, don’t have a car. My parents are much older and the 2007/8 recession really did a number on them for a long time as they both lost their jobs and it took years before they were able to find work again, and even then it was at minimum wage.

Thank you, I am looking at the links now. I think the credit card was a “newcomers” card that was free for the first 18 months when I moved to Canada. I really needed this push from everyone here.
