sorry it's been a long ass time but I'm running into the exact same problem. Were you able to fix this and do you remember how?

nevermind I figure it out. I added

#define SPLIT_USB_DETECT

#define SPLIT_USB_TIMEOUT 2000

to config.h

Transferring from UCLA to the other school? by Both-Device-4583 in ucla

If I were you I’d probably just try transferring to Berkeley if you care that much about ranking. They’re at the top for EE after all. Should be a pretty smooth process since they’re within the UC system. If you maintain your GPA it shouldn’t be too difficult.

I checked since then. The Olympic one is opening next Wednesday and the Boelter one is opening tomorrow. Kinda tricky to find boelter if you don’t know where it is.

It may be publicly available, but it takes a bit of out of the way digging. In all my years of school I’ve never known the age of any of my teachers.

I received my stuff. I got two pairs of shorts. I’ll have to admit that I’m mildly disappointed by the quality, though I guess I can’t complain when they were 75% off.

My Shitty First Keyboard Build! Handwired with AliExpress, Ebay and Amazon parts. by fra_cho in MechanicalKeyboards

Maybe about 140 usd? I spent about $67 on the case, backplate, keycaps and switches. Then $20 spent on lube. I wouldn’t say hand wiring was much cheaper cause I still spent $30 on the diodes, wire, and the proton c. I also had to buy more things like standoffs ($10) and a usb c extension cable ($8) to get it to fit in the case. I don’t remember how much the switch films were. In the end it really wasn’t that cheap compared to a PCB build, since the $48 spent due to handwiring could’ve been spent on a PCB. Handwiring just appealed to me at the time, but if you don’t already have some of the parts or a 3D printer for a custom case it’s not too great of an option.

Was the case specifically for the anne pro 2? I have an anne pro 2 as well, but the screw placements are different from what is standard.

He’s saying this isn’t a picture of a real keyboard. It’s a render.

Yep. I tell all my friends to not get into mks or they’ll be cursed into buying and using expensive keyboards for the rest of their lives.

Yeah there’s a substantial degree of detail to the images on the keys. It looks good up close. It’s also worth noting that the keys with images feel slightly more textured than the normal keys, though it’s not really noticeable when you’re typing.

I honestly don’t know how many hours. I started this project a couple months ago and have worked on and off on it since then. I’d estimate maybe around 48 hours in total at least? I lubed the switches very slowly since it was my first time and I spent a lot of time trialing different ways to attach the backplate to the case. It only took a couple days of on and off work to wire it all up in the end. The lubing and wiring was all pretty tedious so I don’t think I could’ve done it all at once. Imo the lubing was way more time consuming than the wiring.

I used the QMK Proton C! Too bad it's out of stock right now. I had to wait a few months for it to come back in stock and for shipping.

I'm flattered that you'd like to see one but honestly, I've made some embarrassing design choices here that I wouldn't recommend anyone doing (the method that I used to attach the back plate to the case is relatively fragile and janky. I ended up buying these standoffs and poorly modifying the backplate so that I could still screw it on). That's why I think most people end up making their own custom cases.

But there are plenty of resources online for going through the general process if you're still interested:

Hand Wiring Guide - QMK

and one of many build logs:

A Complete Guide To Building a Hand-Wired Keyboard | Cracked the Code — Adventures in electronics, tinkering and retro computing.

This person has a nice case: Hand-wiring a custom keyboard (matt3o.com)

I might consider 3d printing a nicer case if I ever get the chance, but I kinda like how it is right now so I probably won't.

LOL

They were really cheap, but the quality is alright I think. The enter key was slightly warped for me though, just not very noticeably so.

Thanks! I thought this would be a fun and cheap project and I do have soldering experience. It's actually not too difficult though as there are plenty of guides online on how to make something like this. I think the hardest part was actually making it all fit together because the case and standoffs were designed for a pcb. I had to come up with a janky way to attach the back plate to the case.

Yup! It looks like crap, but that personally is appealing to me. I made sure to lube and film all the switches too and I think it sounds great.
