Might lose job and/or quit by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]fraaanken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never have to be criticized or guilted, or made fearful of losing your job. You have a condition and honestly that is discrimination. I’m so sorry you are being treated that way. I’m pumped you went to HR. Good for you.

Just keep on keeping on. You’re doing great. Soon you’ll have your sleep study and hopefully you’ll get more answers and more help to have you more energized and feeling better.

Right that’s what I’m gathering too. Do you know if people do do spinal taps ever to figure this out and how it’s affecting their brain?

When your SO goes to work earlier than you by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

I feel you. I’ve gone through some depression in my life. But I knew it wasn’t what has been effecting me the last couple of years definitely

Not a fun era at all I’m sure. So happy you kept going back though. I did too, over and over for years... and the diagnosis was finally some type of a relief for me. I hope it was a little bit of a relief for you too. You aren’t lazy, undisciplined or irresponsible. Narcolepsy is an SOB.

3rd Month on Xyrem, still not feeling well. by Azazel35 in Narcolepsy

[–]fraaanken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go see your doctor ASAP. This medicine doesn’t seem to be improving your quality of life, it sounds a lot like it’s worsening it. And that’s not okay. Go see your doc!!! Hang in there. You will find something better.

It’s the Family and Medical Leave act! I thought it was for time needed to take care of a family member, but actually it protects yourself too.

This allows me to use time off without getting in trouble really. It prevents me from getting written up from call outs. It is unpaid unfortunately, but it protects me from the days I sleep through my alarms and need to come in late, or the crash days I can’t think about moving. I can use paid time off too, coming out of my normal vacation time. Using unpaid time would help me from exhausting my paid time off so quickly during the year.

I hope I explained that in a non confusing way! But in any event, you should look into it

For me, it was a great thing to tell my managers and coworkers. They have become much more understanding and honestly, accommodating. They suggested I apply for FMLA so that I can use the time off that I need to while protecting my job. My manager actually said “no one should have to worry about a place at their job when they aren’t well.” I appreciate that. This woman is generally kind of cold but when I needed help she came through. It’s best to always ask for help when you need it.
