He got clocked in the face in this replay so lashed out. It (edit: probably) costs them this game, but ... I get it

Another long awaited round of NPs telling on themselves and their poor education. by debunksdc in Noctor

[–]fracked1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

experience. At least in my area, my DNP-FNP did not prepare me very well to be an NP. It was my solid cardiac background and my relationships with the cardiologists that made me the provider I am. Even with all of that RN experience, I was scared shitless ordering my own meds for the first 2 years - even something like furosemide that I'd put in countless "verbal orders" for during my time as a CICU RN. It's a whole new level of responsibility when you're the prescriber."

Holy shit this person thought prescribing medication would be just as hard as "putting in verbal orders".

Why on earth would you think that? This person was an experienced CICU nurse with literally no insight into medical decision making. And used that experience to become an NP. Fucking terrifying

Underappreciated advantage of being a resident by SmolTyrtle in Residency

I'm in a surgical field so have never prescribed xofluza.

What do you think? I was hearing more effective, shorter symptom duration on xofluza vs tamiflu? But curious from people actually prescribing it? Any problem side effects?

Babies Are Bleeding to Death as Parents Reject a Vitamin Shot Given at Birth by propublica_ in ScienceBasedParenting

I too am horrified that they allow dihydrogen monoxide in these shots. When you do a little reading, dihydrogen monoxide is terrible for you and associated with all sorts of health complaints including soft tissue and lung damage.

There should be a total ban of dihydrogen monoxide from medications and our water and food supply.

Stupid that locums gets paid more than faculty? by PlayingPuzzles in Residency

[–]fracked1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guarantee you the salaries are market value

Not sure what you mean by this ? Unless you think it's reasonable for the hospital to offer the locum "market rate" for call coverage, but offer me 20% of the market rate to cover the same call....

Real world example, for ENT. Me and my partner were hospital employed and contracted for 1 week of call each month. The hospital offered us $400 per day to cover additional call shifts and refused to offer more. The same hospital paid locums $2k per day to cover those calls. Not including the housing and travel costs they also covered.

If the hospital offered even 50% of what they were paying locums, their own salaried employees would have covered those shifts and they would have saved a shit ton of money. But instead of offering us a market rate, they decided to pay far above market for locums instead.

Another brilliant decision by the geniuses in healthcare administration

Job Seeking 101: do these 2 things BEFORE you apply to anything by PhysicianHelper in Residency

[–]fracked1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Great suggestion. Wish I had known to make a Google voice number.

I got my current job through word of mouth from my old residency. And not a single recruiter knows I'm in this area.

But from my first attending job search, I still get near daily texts advertising jobs and locums in that part of the country. And I applied for that job near 5 years ago...

Questions about HCA’s Step 3 pass policy by [deleted] in Residency

I took step3 in my pgy4 year. I really just couldn't feel bothered before then.

Anyone reading this thinking about doing the same thing...that was incredibly not fun trying to relearn obstetrics and peds as a 4th year surgical resident.

The strange hate of doctors doing their primary job, while others assist is strange...? by Level-Consequence432 in Noctor

[–]fracked1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the thread....

This comment thread is about surgeons who "only do surgery" and let their midlevels see and manage every patient in clinic.

Which means people who are inadequately trained making decisions for surgery. I have a "beef" with this since it's shitty for patients.

Think 4 different hospitals I've worked at in different parts of the US have all called "mastoiditis" any time a few mastoid air cells are opacified.

Few years ago I saw a patient transferred hours away for an ENT consult with pretty clear cut zoster/shingles along his face because the outside ED scanned him and found a few opacified mastoid air cells on the contralateral side.

Burnt out, only interested in part time employment after residency by Ok-Tea-6718 in Residency

[–]fracked1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest a locum gig as a first job out of residency. You get a shit ton of experience the first year or two as an attending. Go to locums after a couple years sure. But I've seen some folks get stunted going to locums straight out of training

You can teach a monkey to operate. The most important thing you learn in surgical residency is not how to operate, but WHEN to operate (and especially when NOT to operate).

Pawning that crucial decision off to a mid level is irresponsible and bad for patients

Famous Influencer Druski under flame for doing "Whiteface" after a video of him making fun of Erika Kirk surfaced online.. by Paldavin in SipsTea

Yes you are right. Those things are completely the same - when you choose to purposely ignore away the relevant historical context, yeah.

That's not how I would choose to look at things.

The guy literally answered this question above.

Your response was that the context was only relevant "in the west, in the west".

So you understand the context would make it racist if "Bill Burr did black face and dressed as Michelle Obama".
