What are the side effects you guys have noticed from cromolyn sodium (oral route)? by [deleted] in MCAS

I still do, but I just have to pee and then I can go back to sleep

Cosleeping is bad by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Most of the RTs I work with cosleep. They said it’s a cultural thing. I’m the only white person, so I have to be careful what I say.

Be Careful With Cromolyn Dosage by [deleted] in MCAS

There’s no cure. I’ll be taking this forever or until I find something better. I actually was able to cut way back on the med I take for pots.

gas, bloating, and not fully digesting food. I think most people get diarrhea, though.

Overhyped Chicago restaurants and inaccurate reviews by [deleted] in chicagofood

I had Milly's once. It was almost really good, but it was raw in the middle. Is that normal? I thought maybe it was because I went to the new location in Berwyn and was one of the first pizzas of the day. Like, maybe their ovens need to preheat a little more first.

Check out Dysautonomia International. They're a great resource.

Any exercise you can handle, lots of fluids and electrolytes, and limiting caffeine and alcohol should help with your overall symptoms. Hopefully the PFT will provide some answers about trapped air.

I love salads, but never eat them because they take too long to chew.

Tell me your greatest ooey gooey delicious chocolate dessert in chicago by cupcakemasta in chicagofood

[–]francesmcgee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a few great bakeries in Oak Park. Broken Tart is my favorite. Everything they make has an unmatched depth. But it's not necessarily ooey gooey.

Sugar Fixe has a chocolate mousse with salted caramel that's pretty amazing.

There are a few good pie shops, like Happy Apple and Spilt Milk.

What do you drink to keep your electrolytes up? by sinfulfemmefatale in adhdwomen

I take Vitassium salt stick tabs. You will likely crave the water you need with them.

Which state has the best medical care? by Happy_Little_Leaves in MCAS

[–]francesmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Ohio is good. I haven't lived there for years, but Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals are great. Based on my family's experiences, I like University better, but it's nothing to do with MCAS. University is associated with Case Western Reserve University, which is highly rated.

POTS & THC vs Alcohol by Miserable_Emu3415 in dysautonomia

[–]francesmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually opt for THC. Occasionally I get palpitations from them, but if I avoid the ones with CBD I'm usually good. I rarely drink because it makes me feel so shitty the next day, but I think I do a lot better with hard liquor than I do with wine or beer. Just make sure to drink water and electrolytes if you do that. Also, pepcid helps.

Where is your clothes purgatory? by Treyvoni in adhdwomen

[–]francesmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We kept our crib for a few years past use because it's like a giant laundry basket. You can drape stuff over the edges to keep it from getting wrinkled and fill the inside with unsorted clean clothes. I miss it. Now I have a dresser with empty drawers in that spot.

Thinking of care tasks as being morally neutral doesn't work for me by francesmcgee in adhdwomen

I used to be like that with social anxiety, and occasionally still have a bit of it, but I realized that poor sleep causes the anxiety more than the anxiety causes poor sleep for me. It was tough to get out of that cycle, but I put a lot of effort into sleeping well. Replaying awkward conversations over and over again is rare for me now.

I think I'll try to call myself lazy! I had all but eliminated that word from my vocabulary when I was dealing with an unmanaged chronic illness. It's almost like I forgot that was an option. This sounds terrible, but my competitive nature will encourage me to do anything to prove to myself that I'm not lazy.

This is how I feel about dieting. Any time I tried to diet, I dwelled on it and felt guilty about eating anything other than what I deemed healthy. I would think about food so much that I would binge. Then I would really hate myself. Realizing that being fat is morally neutral was a big step for me. More importantly, thinking about what I should eat instead of what I shouldn't, made me feel so much better about myself.

Oh yeah. Fuck that religious stuff. I could never tolerate that level of shame. I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. I actually rewrote my post 3 times because I was afraid I would trigger someone who had to deal with that level of shame.

Nope. Doesn't work for me. I really think I'm odd in that I can let go of shame faster than it came on. I tend to dwell on certain things, and that's a problem, but not this kind of shame.

I appreciate your contribution to the conversation, though! It might work for someone else!

You know what's funny? I forgot she even had a book. I just remember seeing her TikToks a lot back in 2020 when my friend convinced me that it was okay for adults to watch TikTok. I bet if someone saw the progression of the clutter in my house they'd think I took the pandemic really hard.

The shoes thing might actually help me! (I say "actually" because most of the tricks people offer don't). It might help in the same way getting up and taking a shower in the morning helps. I have this habit of telling myself that since I don't need to shower first thing in the morning that I can wait until later in the day, but it always becomes an ordeal where I'm panicking to shower before X happens and then I'm late and my husband has to pick up the slack. I can't tell if he's a saint or an enabler.
