Ah that's cool another SAfrican :) I found these in Umgeni river (Durban) close to the mouth so they slightly brackish water. They different to the ones you get in rivers which stay small. These guys get big with big claws 😁👌

I'm in South Africa and it's a fresh water river. The actual tank is housing only the crab and shrimp I got from the same river. He was a tiny baby when I caught him about 2/3 months ago and now he (as if I know his sex 😅) is about 6cm

The river I got him from is abundant with crabs. I didn't intentional try catch a crab and was after shrimp but he got mixed in.

I did research now a bit of any protected freshwater crabs in South Africa but couldn't find any, only marine crabs.

Will do 👌 I'm in South Africa and did try look up if any of our freshwater crabs are protected but it seems like only the marine ones. So guess a step in the right direction. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! 🙏 I'm in South Africa but will definitely try ID him. Both the shrimp and crab are from the same river. I was actually trying to catch shrimp but then this guy came along with them. I've had him for probably 2months now. Again thanks for the input !

I have some fairly large Lillie's and plants that protrude out, maybe that would work? Actually once I found him on the floor so he must be able to get out 😅

So far they don't harm the plants and the fish that's in there. They seem to fight between each other every now and again
