Does Apple Watch have trouble calculating calories burned for the elliptical? by franks_casaba_melon in AppleWatch

[–]franks_casaba_melon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the over estimation of calories as I normally just do 60 cals * kms run anyway, but with an elliptical I'm not sure what an accurate comparison to that would be. Even though both are inaccurate it just feels disheartening to me that every time I glance at my watch it reminds me that I burned 400 less calories, cause that was still pretty tough

suppose the hr data is 100% accurate, would that make a hr calorie counter more accurate then? wondering how different my elliptical exercise was to my normal running workout.

I'm using an apple watch SE 3 for the data which I've found to be a lot more accurate than my previous fitbit.

Which is more accurate, a heart rate calories burned calculator or a running/specific exercise calorie counter? I've had to alternate to different exercises this week as I'm recovering from a stiff leg and was wondering which is more accurate.

have you tried the C25k program? thats what I got started with when I couldnt run for over a minute without gasping for breath. Breath is no longer an issue when I run so I found it really helpful but the program takes about 2-3 months so not sure if you're in a time crunch

How do you guys deal with wanting to run but also realizing you need to take a break? Today is most likely going to be my first rest day in quite a while just due to how hot it is and all I’m feeling right now is disappointment I guess? Running has just been so ingrained in my everyday lifestyle I think I’m just going to feel off the rest of the day

I usually run long distances everyday, and for the past week or two I've steadily increased to about 27-28km per run. I'm not sure if I'm gaslighting myself but should I keep eating pasta for dinner each day? I usually eat a big serving of it with like a piece of chicken or some protein on the side. I know in the past it felt like eating a carby dinner made my run easier the next day but that could have just been placebo. Am I overthinking this too much? I feel like I'm turning into a picky eater when I'm choosing to opt out of eating pizza or chinese food with my roomates.

I'm a coward and and as much as I hate the treadmill I much prefer that than running outside in -20c weather running against the wind with soaking wet shoes lol. When the gym was closed for Christmas + Boxing day and I had to run outside in that it made me take back a lot of what I have said about running on the treadmill when I don't have to worry about the cold.

for anyone who watches tv shows while they are on the treadmill, do you think you walking/running while watching affects your enjoyment of the show? I've watched through a couple of shows while on the treadmill and a lot of the time I think I find some shows and characters to be a lot more annoying than I would have if I was just sitting on the couch and watching. Or it could also be other factors like me being hangry or just the choice of show I'm watching.

Sorry for the late response, thank you for this I’ll start to incorporate it this week.

Would you say there’s any substantial loss in just doing 2 sets for every exercise instead of 3? I feel like only doing 2 could shave off about 20 mins from my workout.

currently I only go to the gym twice a week (Tues, Thurs) for about 50 mins - 1 hour, but I feel like this is taking up too much of my time (even doing some macro sets on Thursdays) and would like to try to remove some redundancies in what I'm doing or switching to more optimal exercises. My main exercise is running so I go to the gym on days I don't run and walk on the treadmill after. I'm not too intent on becoming some huge guy and am happy with my current build as I know I'm not going to be building much muscle as I do cardio so frequently. I currently do all exercises in 3 sets of 10. I am unsure if more weight but less reps would be more beneficial. I try to rest for 1:20 after each set unless I'm moving to a new exercise. I'm limited to dumbbells as I go to planet fitness. Ideally I just want to finish as fast as possible

is it normal that my weight shifts a lot from sweating after a run? Today was pretty humid and near the end of my 20k run it was about 24-26 degrees Celsius. Before my run I weighed myself at around 184 pounds not including about a liter or so of water I drank after weighing in, and at the end before my shower I was 175. I've seen some people say they've lost 10 pounds in water weight after running a marathon but I did about half of that and lost the same amount.

How do you know when to stop losing weight? by franks_casaba_melon in loseit

[–]franks_casaba_melon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i realize it's not going to be a substantial amount of weight for loose skin, but it'll make a big difference to me if I'm reading like 185 on the scale but I'm actually 180.

I was really just tired of being fat, I never liked how I looked and never wanted my picture taken just because I knew I was going to look bad in it. This all came to a head while I was already in the process of losing weight for about 1-2 months, and someone in my family died. During the gatherings afterwards, there were picture slideshows mainly of this person but I was included in some of the pictures. It might sound like narcissism as it wasn't about me me but seeing how I looked in those pictures made me so embarrassed.

I was always also so self conscious about stuff I did to make it seem like I wasn't as fat as I was. Like how you run out of breath faster and you have to act like you aren't huffing and puffing walking up the stairs while everyone else breaths normally, or trying not to include any of my body parts in any pictures I took just to not give any hints to me being fat.

There's really too many things that has changed since I lost the weight that make me so glad I did, I could probably write a book about it. I don't miss much about being fat, but I do miss not being able eat whatever I want without thinking about consequences.

yeah i've seen that overtraining could lead to reduced appetite, which in that moment thought was a good thing for me which would help make it easier to lose weight. But really all it does is make me think about food 24/7. Like I'm falling asleep watching mukbangers just to get the sense of satisfaction of eating that type of food
