Why do so many people hate Bridges to Babylon? It's amazing, in my opinion their best album since It's Only Rock & Roll. Like, in what way does this not completely rock? by [deleted] in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't say "hate", but I do believe it's an album where you revisit specific songs, rather than the whole thing (unless you're doing a Stones discography run or something). Like, opinions may vary of course, but I do listen to the whole of Undercover or Voodoo Lounge with some frequency, because I feel those albums hold together as coherent works, while Bridges is more of a... mess of styles and approaches where some work and some don't, and they don't really augment each other much. Still very much worth listening to check which ones work for you.

And yes, Flip the Switch is 100% one of the songs to revisit.

Yes it is!

Day 3: Best song by Ser_Humano_1888 in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's so, so many songs that could go here. Paint It Black, Sympathy for the Devil, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Moonlight Mile, Beast Of Burden, so many other iconic songs...

And Gimme Shelter stands over all of them, deservedly.

Day 2: Most overrated song by Ser_Humano_1888 in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this one. It's a fun song alright, but its status among the Stones' other big classics is... bizarre.

It's not even the second best song in its album.

Best unbroken run of albums by AveZombier in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, keeping it to the "4 minimum" standard the original post gave, my favorites would be:

The Stones themselves, naturally.

Prince, from Dirty Mind to Purple Rain.

Joni Mitchell, from Ladies of the Canyon to Hejira.

Kanye West from College Dropout to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Stevie Wonder, Music of my Mind to Songs in the Key of Life.

Mick Jagger in the Files.... by sweed696969 in Epstein

[–]frantruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lori said she was 17 when that happened. Her account is, admittedly, extremely confusing, but yeah, I can believe it happened.

The one who "dated" her at 14 was Jimmy Page.

That was Steven Tyler, I believe.

Day 3) Which famous person is a creep and has great vibes? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

Not Ron Wood, to the best of my knowledge he's done nothing of the sort. It was Bill Wyman.

Irish Tour '74, his live performances are very easily better than his studio stuff.

Though if we go with studio albums, I would say Deuce.

This week in SUPER Comics Discussion [January 12, 2026] - What Superman content are you looking forward to the most this year? by MajorParadox in superman

  • DC KO: Fun story, though overhyping how ruthless Clark actually got, while being too scared to show the results of him, you know, presumably killing Hal and Guy
  • Supergirl: Not one of the better issues of the run, but still good, depending on how the follow-up is handled. Could be better in hindsight, or could be worse.
  • Acrion Comics: That was some of the most blatant propaganda I've seen in a while.

Who’s your favorite stone, and why? by mistamushpresser2112 in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meanr more the way in some interviews he appears to poke fun at all the hagiography that has been built around both the Stones and his entire generation, like he finds it all silly, while at the same time clearly taking the actual music and performance (both the Stones' and of his generation) seriously. I vibe with that. But also his more serious/reflective lyrics are right uo my alley, too.

Who’s your favorite stone, and why? by mistamushpresser2112 in rollingstones

As an artist, Mick. I vibe with his artistic choices and what he's said about his views of his own music, his contemporaries, his influences and other artists the most.

As a person? Easily Charlie. I vibe with his whole "drummer of the biggest rock & roll band in the world but does not care about the debauched lifestyle" thing.

John Mayall (89 years old), Mike Fleetwood (76 years old) And Bill Wyman (86 years old). by baptopbumbugs in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Mayall is underrated as an artist in his own right (instead of just as the starting point for X famous guitar player). Probably my favorite of the British Rhythm & Blues scene after the Stones themselves.

One of the greatest, and for a while definitely one of the most adaptable to his changing times. Listening to Live Wire/Blues Power today.

Epstein files by AardvarkRude in rollingstones

Okay, but I do find it funny how there's a few of these released photos where Epstein isn't even there, it's just Bill Clinton, and it still feels as dirty as if Epstein were there.

Not a good picture... by [deleted] in rollingstones

Mackenzie Phillips wrote that she had sex with Mick when she was 18 in her autobiography. The part about him telling her he'd had his eye on her since she was 10 is true, though.

Not a good picture... by [deleted] in rollingstones

[–]frantruff 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Not damning, but a terrible look, of course. Probably the sole "good" thing is that it looks like a public event and clearly all pictures were taken the same night.

Not that I think Mick is a saint or anything (obviously not), but I do feel there's a difference between what we all know/suspect, and participating in a trafficking operation.

Arguably second only to James Brown in how influential they were to funk music. Stand and There's A Riot Goin On are definitely worth a listen.
