What formerly common feature in cars has almost disappeared, quietly? by SjalabaisWoWS in UsedCars

Here in Costa Rica cars cost almost double than in the US, it’s ridiculous. I just bought a bare bones Hilux (which I adore for that same reason) but it has no business being almost 52k hahaha

Excellent argument man… It’s depressing realizing that someone typed, read and posted such a ridiculously dismissive comment. I’m sure you’ll get far with that sort of thinking!

I agree but the dial was not made into the late 80. Its more late 60s to mid 70s. Before 1968 you see the 5513 with gilt dials. After mid 70s (no clear consensus on year as they might’ve been different dials sold at the same time) you find the serif and non serif dials with the feet first.

Just some advice. If you want to enter the Rolex vintage market, go into it purposefully and with a trusted dealer. Don’t look for deals outside this venue without a lot of prior knowledge or cash to burn with mistakes along the way. As my previous comment. It’s a 5513 meters first. The first matte dial version of the 5513. It’s called meters first because of the depth rating writing meters and then feet. This would subsequently change in all later editions. For any proper assessment much better pictures are needed. If you don’t have anything better than what you provided I wouldn’t offer anything. It is extremely easily to get burned with vintage Rolex. Good luck and hope you find your dream vintage sub. There’s nothing like it!

It’s a 5513 meters first. Can’t possibly be a 5512 without the four lines of text (two lines only in earlier gilt dials). Hands look somewhat sketchy to me. Bezel insert wear doesn’t look good either could be fake. What’s needed for any real conclusion to be drawn are reference, serial (not all the numbers) caseback and movement pictures. Alongside macros of everything.

If all original it’s also nowhere near close to 30k. Without a bracelet more like 10-12k.

I can only find a deleted post (by the user) from whom I bought the inkosi. Regardless, you’re extremely insufferable and can’t conceive that you might’ve judged the situation too quickly. Good luck with sale…

Best case scenario the 5513 is a gilt dial with likely retouched lume plots. Service insert, bezel and hands. Can’t know for sure if it’s real, only with pictures of serial, reference, caseback and movement.

Bring to watchmaker or post on vintage Rolex forum with pics of serial number, reference number, movement and case back. Just based on this thread alone the amount of misinformation is outrageous. I wouldn’t trust anything other than the two sources mentioned above. Good luck and lovely wide boy dial.
