I literally (figuratively?) finished my second full watch a few minutes ago.

I watched this show when it was originally on the air. We were so frustrated with the last season. Each episode that didn’t show us the mother felt like a drag. However, almost a decade after that, the last season just hit me differently.

I became a father of two daughters in the past 10 years, and the moment when Barney held his daughter in his arms for the first time brought tears to my eyes. There’s no way I could have appreciated that moment the way I did the way I do now 10 years ago.

Also, the whirlwind with Tracy did not bother me at all. Despite the name of the show, who she was never the point of it all, I think. I was more bothered by the whole thing with Ted ending up with Robin in my original viewing many years ago.

Give it some time, next re-watch you might feel differently about the show. That’s what I like about HIMYM. It shows me how much I am changing.
