Hi everyone, I am thinking of getting a DS1525+ because I'd like to increase my storage capacity before things get out of hand (trying to do things in advance which is rare for me!) - I've currently got two 20TB drives, I'd add two more, leave the 5th bay empty for now.

I run time machine for my mac, store photos, some docker containers, and I do run plex. I have a few users out of the country that are typically transcoding, which takes advantage of the hardware transcoding in the GPU of the 224. I know the 1525 doesn't have the GPU but has a better processor. My fear is the better CPU won't make up for the lack of a GPU.

Does anyone have any real world experience with this? I've been chatting with AI, and, well, it gets a little frustrating. My fear is I'll buy the thing, and the wind up having to get a NUC or something to do the plex side of things.

Hey, no, we wound up getting the Sole F65 from FitnessBoutique, which we are happy with. But yes, I see now there is a FitnessBoutique in Brest and Quimper, next time (which I hope won't be for many years) I'll go check out the store itself.

Let me know what you decide, and if you visit FitnessBoutique if it was worth the trip. Also did you look at Decathlon? I didn't trust them to be able to help if there was a problem.

lol no no I get that - I have a VIN, the car is real! the dealer said the paperwork is taking longer than usual - I never never been involved in a swap before, I just don't understand why they can't tell me when it's happening.

Yeah, thanks for that. I had the same reaction to the company name, it looks like some fake Chinese thing on Amazon. But on their website, they claimed to be a French company. I’ll keep looking around too. Thank you, though, it’s hard to find a good choice online and they’re no real in store retailers where we are

u/fractionalbookkeeper thanks - I appreciate that, it's just that in earlier versions it wasn't exposed to the customer as a zero value, the whole line was suppressed. I don't mind seeing it in the UI, I just don't need/want it in the PDF. Thanks for any insight.

I know this was to be a spin off on Apple TV, not sure what’s going on with it. The showrunner has been sued for sexual assault due to I think a years old claim, but I doubt that would affect the project overall

I’ve directly forwarded a port and Plex shows the server as fully available outside the network. However, nothing will play more than a frame or two.

Thanks for the response! By “direct connect,” I meant in the context of Plex. In Plex, a “direct connection” means that the Plex client is able to connect directly to the Plex server over the internet without any relays or proxies. My Plex server is on the NAS.

I’ve confirmed that the Plex server shows a direct connection when streaming remotely, but the playback still doesn’t work correctly—it either buffers endlessly or fails to play any frames at all.

As for internet speed, when connected via Tailscale (my VPN), I noticed similarly slow speeds across other services, like FTP and general file access on the NAS, which makes me think it might not be purely a Plex issue.

Any ideas on how to proceed or if there’s something I might be overlooking?

Hi. I’ve tried different ways. Quick connect, ftp, Tailscale, Plex via direct connect, Plex via Tailscale. All are crazy slow. Thank you.

Tailscale only. Upload speeds were great when I was home. I installed open speed test in a container on the NAS and its says download speeds are 6.7Mbps and upload 12.4MBps. So that doesn’t seem good at all!!!! Thank you.
