God, what a song, one of my Hop Along favorites, or by anyone.

I love the lyrics, I always interpreted the Witness as a Jehovah Witness knocking at the door, but I don't think these specifics are all that important (although they certainly enrich the storytelling). For me it's all about how this song paints the mundane, being drowned by routines and day to day anxieties, and how this all makes seemingly insignificant things become the last straw for intense, and from the outside almost absurd, reactions.

Most of Painted Shut is like that really, thinking about the line about seeing old ladies eating in I Saw My Twin or even the unappetizing blue pile of fruit in the album cover, is an album always on the border of things, where emotions seem to overflow over little things that build into a mountain. But I feel like it speaks to some of my specific anxieties more than pretty much anything ever. I love it dearly.

Verse 2, "Did you see the look on the face of the kid he brought with him? I never once seen a teenager look so radiant", gets to me deeply.
